Expected as the revival of the Civilization genre, humankind innovates on multiple points and not necessarily those on which we expected the most.

In just over 24 hours, Humankind will be available. The game imagined by the Spaniards of Amplitude is an alternative to the heavyweight of the genre, the Civilization VI of Firaxis. In addition to a PC version and a Mac version, we will be entitled to a third version, the game also being planned for Stadia, with a surprise in store.

Direct touch touch controls

Not content with being one of – if not the – first 4X available on Stadia, Humankind will therefore introduce the control system called direct touch when it is released, starting tomorrow. Until now, playing via Stadia involved connecting a gamepad or the keyboard / mouse pair in the most classic way.

Stadia, however, offers a third solution which was still very little used, at least in the world of video games. Indeed, in order to comply with a more mobile use, it is possible to rely on a touch “controller”. It is a question of exploiting the direct touch function which therefore makes it possible to interpret taps on the screen for actions.

In order to make the thing more complete and interesting, we are not limited here to a single tap and several commands / manipulations are possible: tap with a single finger to select, hold down to have a preview, tap with two fingers to cancel, tap with three fingers to bring up the pause menu, swipe with one finger to move.

Of course, the question will be to see if the set is comfortable to use. Will touch control be fast enough? Isn't it likely to suffer from a certain latency?

« Leave your mark »

Like Hitman 3 was able to do when it was released, Humankind will use another Stadia feature to stand out, the State Share. The principle here is to allow a friend or another average player to resume our game where it was interrupted. It is then possible to measure ourselves against each other in order to compare our successes – or our failures – in a perfectly identical context.

Humankind uses State Share via a feature called "Leave your Mark": as soon as a player has shared a screenshot or a video, Stadia takes care of associating our progress with it and, it seems , the world configuration used on this game. An original way to compete with friends. Remember that Humankind, developed by the Spaniards of Amplitude Studios to whom we owe in particular the 4X Endless Space and Endless Legend, will be available from tomorrow August 17th.

Civilization: building a franchise that stands the test of time? Stadia: Humankind will be the first game to benefit from

Nothing has been formalized yet, but as Civilization VI will soon celebrate its fifth anniversary and two expansions have been released, the announcement of a new opus seems as inevitable as it is (relatively) close. In the meantime, we have decided to return to the genesis of what is, without a doubt, the most famous of management and strategy games. Back in 1991… And even a little further still.
