Critical success does not always mean commercial success. And Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is (unfortunately) once again the proof…

Indeed, the title developed by the teams of Eidos Montreal does not seem to have achieved the objectives set by Square Enix.

Guardians shoot heads

Available since last October, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy presented itself as one of the beautiful surprises of the end of 2021. Far from being devoid of any imperfection, it had the merit of offering a chiseled narration and controlled humour. In addition to having been generally well received by the press, the players also seem to have found many qualities in him.

However, during a meeting report, the president of Square Enix, Yosuke Matsuda, said that sales at launch of the title were lower than expected, without providing exact figures. That said, the publisher does not despair and claims to do everything possible to compensate for this slow and disappointing start for the year 2022.

It is interesting to note that this is the third time in a row that the sales of a production signed Eidos Montreal have not lived up to Square Enix's expectations. Indeed, after Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (which had made a weak start according to the words of Yosuke Matsuda himself), it is now the turn of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy not to achieve its objectives. , during its launch period at least.

Finally, remember that across Square Enix, this is the second time a Marvel title has fallen short of the publisher's expectations, after the resounding failure of Marvel's Avengers.
