Faster gameplay, more responsive play

Above all, 2K Games mentions "faster gameplay, more precise and responsive movements, more skill-based defense and significant changes to the player creation system".

To do this, Mike Wang, Gameplay Director at Visual Concepts, explains that he used feedback from community players to make "some of the key changes they were expecting and offer a number of new gameplay improvements" . Here are the main points discussed so far.

NBA 2K22 improvements

Defense & AI Defense AI: Completely rebuilt contest and counter systems, a significant update to fundamental defensive rotations, and much more.

Dribble: Players will experience a unique feel and pacing when doing sizeups, a noticeably faster overall pacing and much more precise control when moving around the court, plus a ton of other new combos, cancels, and combos.

Play at Post: Updates highlight plenty of new content, including new moves and an arsenal of back-to-basket moves.

Shots: The new shooting system incorporates a new shot gauge with a dynamic success window. This window widens during quality shots with good shooters, but it narrows against a big defense with a weak player or in case of fatigue. This year, the determining factor for the success of the shots is a good analysis of the situation. Teams that create openings and take good shots will have a much better chance of success than teams that attempt mediocre shots in an unfavorable situation.

Finishing: Emphasis has been placed on strengthening the skill gap for basket finishing. Players can also completely customize their dunk repertoire with the all-new Dunk Creator.

Player Profiles, Badges, and Takeover: Adjustments to create more balanced builds and increasing the total number of badges to 80 give players plenty of ways to impact the game. Additionally, NBA 2K22 for consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S introduce Takeover Bonuses, which you can unlock to enhance your Takeover skills.
