… and to be completely honest, the result hardly convinces us.

A few years ago, Philips had tried the Ambilight system in order to offer greater immersion on its televisions. If the technology still exists, we cannot really say that it has convinced the spectators en masse.

Corsair iCUE at the heart of the system

It is, however, a fairly similar technique that seems to want to develop Corsair and Ubisoft to accompany the launch of Far Cry 6, one of the main releases of the Spanish publisher for this fall. The idea here is to use the American group's iCUE RGB systems to further immerse the player in the action.

Corsair has a device dubbed the “LT100” or iCUE Smart Light Tower Starter Kit. It is simply two light columns that are placed on either side of the screen and which are able to reproduce given lighting configurations in order to decorate our play area, for example.

The thing is obviously associated with Corsair's iCUE software which integrates multiple style and color settings for these towers and which allows the lighting to be synchronized with other PC components: fans, motherboard, graphics card, LED strips...

Dynamic lighting based on in-game events

According to Corsair and Ubisoft, the thing can however go further. In the case of Far Cry 6, the two companies have teamed up so that iCUE lighting is able to support the evolutions of the player. As shown in the video below, it does indeed appear that a flame-laden stage results in yellow, orange, and red LED lighting.

In their press release, the two partners explain that “the entire iCUE ecosystem will light up to reflect in-game events in real time”. If the example of the fire mentioned above is perhaps the most convincing of the video, for the rest, we still have a hard time finding it really effective. But you would have to test it to be sure.

This technique is of course reserved for the PC version of Far Cry 6, which is due out on October 7. Corsair's integration with its iCUE system should be available the same day.
