Mass Effect Legendary Edition: sales

Yesterday was held for Electronic Arts the call to investors relating to the first quarter of the fiscal year 2021. The opportunity, among other things, to announce "unexpected" results for Mass Effect Legendary Edition and its desire in the future to continue to invest in single-player games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Released in May 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, the remastered edition of Bioware's cult Action-RPG trilogy would have "greatly exceeded" the forecasts announced before its release. A very good news which obviously gives good ideas to Electronic Arts, namely to take more interest in exclusively solo games.

Eyes full of stars at Electronic Arts

“The launch of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the remaster of the first three Mass Effect games, rekindled the passion of fans around the world, driving sales performance far beyond our expectations,” said Andrew Wilson, P .-CEO of Electronic Arts, during this call for investors.

He also took the opportunity to return to another recent success on the single-player game market, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment and released in 2019. “The arrival of this title on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 was also an opportunity for new and regular players to return to this incredible game”.

A change in policy on single-player games?

On the strength of this observation, Andrew Wilson has thus ruled on behalf of Electronic Arts to want to continue to invest in these two franchises, as well as in other “extraordinary” intellectual properties in its portfolio. If we already knew that sequels for the Mass Effect and Fallen Order franchises were in the works, this is overall good news for fans of single-player games.

The excellent health, financially speaking, of these two now iconic solo licenses could therefore indicate a global change of direction for Electronic Arts. As a reminder, the publisher has long favored free-to-play games (or not, for that matter), crippled by microtransactions. The future will tell us if this trend will continue and if future solo games from partner studios will also live up to the expectations of the American ogre.
