A video that says a lot

The first episode is the one that required the most effort from the developers. It must be said that it still dates from 2007. Currently, it is of course the latter that EA has focused on during its communication around the trilogy. Anyway, IGN just gave us a nice video that compares these remasters with the base releases.

This is an opportunity to see that the graphics have been drastically improved thanks to artificial intelligence. The sets have gained in realism and the character models are much finer. Reflections are also appearing on different surfaces. Another good surprise, Bioware has greatly reduced loading times (sometimes going from 52 to 14 seconds). The video below illustrates all of this progress.

A wave of change

The PlayStation Blog also went there with its little article. Electronic Arts details the major improvements applied to this Legendary Edition. For example, in combat, Shepard now has the ability to flee and perform melee attacks via a dedicated button. Weapon accuracy and handling have been improved, enemies in Mass Effect 1 can take headshots, weapons cool down faster, and are all usable regardless of character class.

A rebalancing has been done on skills, ammunition loot, experience points and the cover system. The Mako (an emblematic vehicle of the saga) is more maneuverable, its shield recharges faster and it is equipped with new thrusters. Finally, a new start screen including all three games, more character creation options or even updated trophies have been included.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 14, 2021. The compilation will be backwards compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
