Expected September 23 and after two beta phases, including one on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Diablo ii: resurrected gives some of its news through a forum article.

PezRadar, Community Manager at Blizzard, shared some information regarding multiplayer and chat on consoles, the controversy around the lack of TCP/IP support as well as ultrawide for the PC version.

Opening a chat room in Tristram on consoles

The PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions of the remaster of the father of hack'n slash were entitled to only a few days of play during the open beta. Despite this short period of time, the teams in charge of the project were able to identify and correct some bugs in view of its imminent release.

On consoles, Vicarious Visions preferred to abandon the concept of living rooms present in the original game, in favor of a group search system. However, the open beta phase was not sufficient to attest to its effectiveness. The search criteria to join other players on consoles turned out to be very limited, making the exercise not very ergonomic. A problem that should be solved before the release of the game, many additional filters have been added to make this feature more relevant.

Another problem identified during the beta on consoles: the chat. Logically, it is difficult to use a text chat with a controller. The only way to communicate is therefore through the native voice chat system at each console. Despite several negative feedback on this subject, Blizzard does not intend to return to this feature in the near future. A policy that could however be changed when the game is released.

New resolutions on the PC version

The source of legitimate controversy, the announcement of the removal of TCP/IP support on the PC version seems to be final, even for the game's release. According to Blizzard, this feature could cause serious security problems. An excuse that was not to the liking of the fans, seeing there the beginnings of the debacle caused by Warcraft III: Reforged. Without TCP/IP, it will indeed be practically impossible to create mods for the multiplayer part of the game.

If Blizzard's priority is to ensure security on Diablo II: Resurrected, the teams are working on a way to make the game easily moddable, despite the absence of TCP/IP. Mods for the Diablo II classic client will not be affected, but patience will be required regarding their multiplayer counterpart.

Finally, PezRadar returned to the support of ultrawide (21:9). While it was possible to enjoy the game in full screen on such monitors during the technical alpha, the teams identified serious problems with this aspect ratio. These include issues such as attracting enemies from further away than intended, or an AI not reacting to attacks from too far away. In order to standardize the experience and make it as faithful as possible to the original game, ultrawide screens will unfortunately not take advantage of their full potential. Instead, the aspect ratio on these monitors will be limited to 19:9.

Unfortunately, this recent information seems to bring more bad news than good. Hope remains, however, albeit small, since Diablo II: Resurrected is expected as a reminder on September 23 on PC, Nintendo Switch as well as on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. There are therefore a few healthy days left which could allow the teams to correct the problems mentioned above.
