This was undoubtedly one of the greatest disappointments of recent years. Scalebound, a canceled exclusive for the Xbox One, is once again making headlines.

Action-RPG yet extremely ambitious, Scalebound was supposed to highlight all the capabilities of the Xbox One in 2017. Unfortunately, the rag quickly burned between Xbox and Platinum Games, leading to the inevitable cancellation of the project. This week, the Japanese studio gave its version of the very sad outcome taken by this new license.

A sacred mea culpa

During an interview granted to the channel Cutscenes on YouTube, Hideki Kamiya, who was in charge of the realization of Scalebound, returned to this fiasco.

“They (Microsoft) expected very good things from us and we had to live up to their expectations with this project […] We were working in an environment that we were not used to. We were developing on the Unreal Engine but we lacked the necessary know-how to build a game with online functionality. The obstacles we had to overcome were too great. We didn't have enough experience to cross them, which led to this conclusion. »

Kamiya even ended up apologizing.

"I'm sorry for the players who were looking forward to the game, and I'm sorry for Microsoft who, as a business partner, trusted us. »

Hoping for better days between the two companies and why not a possible resurrection of Scalebound.
