A succession for virtual reality on PlayStation 5 which should not land, at best, before next year.

The rumors follow one another and are not necessarily alike concerning the future PlayStation VR 2 which must come to convert the PlayStation 5 to virtual reality and logically follow the PSVR which tumbled almost five years ago. After the official announcement from Sony last February and the first rumors mentioned in May, it is PSVR without Word which takes stock of all the new features envisaged by the Japanese on this second generation.

Thinner display, preserving the console

First, the YouTuber confirms several information already known and in particular the fact that Sony will make a leap in terms of image definition. The PSVR was content with 960 x 1 pixels and the PSVR 080 will therefore offer 2 x 2 pixels per eye, which should place it among the best VR headsets, only a stone's throw from HP's Reverb G000 (2 x 040).

Among the new information, we note that the screens of each eye will be, on the PSVR 2, in OLED. There is also talk of offering high dynamic range imaging better known by the acronym HDR. Finally, Sony seems to have to slightly increase the field of vision of its helmet: we would go from 100° on the PSVR to 110° on the new model.

Who says higher definition, also says greater gluttony. In order to limit the requirements of such image quality, Sony would have opted for the techniques of Flexible Scaling Resolution and Foveated Rendering which, thanks to the eye tracking cameras, make it possible to adjust the image definition according to the where the user is looking.

Controllers with “capacitive touch sensors”

Without further details, PSVR without Parole emphasizes the integration of haptic feedback into the headset in order to improve immersion of course, but also - and although we do not see how it works at the moment - to reduce the effect of motion sickness or motion sickness, a characteristic concern of virtual reality.

In addition, the YouTuber returned to the question of PSVR 2 controllers. We still do not know their names, but it is clear that Sony will significantly review its copy. It is thus planned to integrate “capacitive touch sensors” in addition to the adaptive and haptic triggers which had already been mentioned previously.

The idea here is to allow the controller to perceive how far away your fingers are and thus vary the feedback. It is easy to imagine the potential of such solutions for inspired developers. Of course, as credible as they are, this information has not yet been confirmed by Sony, which should not speak immediately.

According to PSVR without Word, the Japanese do not seem to have to come back to the question and detail their plans before the start of 2022.
