There are many different customization options in Animal Crossing New Horizons. If you have Happy Home Paradise, you will eventually unlock the ability to customize villager homes on your island. This can take a bit of work and is a slightly confusing process.

How to Renovate Villagers' Houses

You won't be able to renovate houses until you complete thirty Vacation Homes in Happy Home Paradise. Once you hit that quota, Tom Nook will tell you that he's now offering a renovation service the next time you visit Resident Services.

Just tell Tom Nook that you want to renovate the house of the villager of your choice and offer him 9 Bells to cover the cost. You'll get 000 Nook Mile points for each upgrade, but you won't get them until the next day. Likewise, the remodeling will not take effect until the next morning's announcement.

What You Can and Can't Do When Renovating Villager Houses

Villager house remodeling is limited; Here's what you can and can't do:

  • You cannot change the room size.
  • You can change the appearance of the exterior.
  • You can change furniture and music in their room.
  • You can renovate as many houses as you want in one day.
