How to get every vegetable in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In Animal Crossing, getting your six basic fruits is easy, but similar vegetables and ingredients are a little harder to find. If you're looking for vegetables and similar foods to collect or cook, such as carrots, turnips, potatoes, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots, you've come to the right place. Here's how to get all kinds of vegetables in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Cultivate crops

The easiest way to get vegetables is to grow them yourself. There are six different types of vegetables you can grow in the game, and one of them has four variations. Crops take three days to grow, and harvesting unwatered crops will give you one of each, while fully watered crops will give you three.

Buy turnips from Daisy Mae

In the past, turnips were mainly for buying and reselling, but since the free 2.0 update, you can also cook with them! Get turnips by talking to Daisy Mae on your island between 5am and 12pm on Sunday morning in your current time zone. Their price can vary from 90 to 110 bells. However, turnips spoil after a week, so you either have to cook with them or sell them by the following Sunday.

Mushroom picking

Whether you use mushrooms to build special DIY furniture or use them to cook delicious dishes like mushroom pizza and mushroom curry, mushrooms can be obtained by gathering them around your island. The catch is that they're only available two months out of the year: November in the northern hemisphere and May in the southern hemisphere. Be sure to collect them while you can!

  • elegant mushrooms
  • Flat mushrooms
  • rare mushrooms
  • Round Mushrooms
  • Lean Mushrooms

Most crafting and cooking is done with flat, round, lean mushrooms. Only two DIYs each require Rare or Elegant Mushrooms, but they can be sold at Nook's Cranny for 16 and 000 Bells respectively (this will vary by Bell Boom Order).

Collect bamboo shoots

Different from bamboo or young spring bamboo, bamboo shoots themselves are actually a vegetable that you can cook with (if you don't plant trees with it). Bamboo shoots cannot be harvested from the bamboo you are growing, but there are two main ways to get bamboo shoots. One is to give yourself luck with the Nook Miles Ticket Mystery Tours. If you end up on a bamboo island, you can dig up several bamboo shoots there.

The other way to get bamboo shoots is from Daisy Mae. You need to have bought turnips from her in at least three different weeks to be eligible, but once you do, she'll send you three bamboo shoots as a thank you every time you buy at least 100 turnips from her on Sunday. The mail will arrive Monday morning at 5 am.

Note that not all of the items on this list are technically classified as vegetables, but they all fall into a similar category when used in cooking recipes.
