  • Lots of new things to do for those who have been playing for a long time
  • FINALLY the possibility of cultivating a vegetable garden
  • New very well thought out decoration features
  • Le Perchoir is no more interesting than in previous games
  • Admiral's Islands don't bring much

Happy Home Paradise has been tested on Switch with a commercial version of the DLC. It is already available on the Nintendo Store.

Let's talk about free content first. Since the game's release, Nintendo has been regularly adding new content: Thanksgiving celebrations, special items for the arrival of spring, new features... an opportunity for the game to renew itself, since that's often what neophytes blame it for. : its somewhat monotonous side. However, the game hadn't had a new update for several months, and players were starting to get worried. It's finally done with this massive update, which offers a lot of new content and which is above all the last big update for Animal Crossing New Horizons.

In the garden…. and in the kitchen!

The flagship feature of this update is of course the GARDEN. Like a Harvest Moon, it is now possible to obtain seeds from Racine the gardener, and to grow tomatoes, wheat or even sugar cane.

What for ? It's obviously a good way to earn money, but it's also an opportunity to test another feature specific to this update: the kitchen! You will have to build the dedicated item (a little big but very pretty), in order to craft soups, baskets of bread, and other small dishes. So of course, their usefulness is limited since our character does not need to feed. But these items are of the most beautiful effect in decoration in a warm interior.

Other big additions also include Admiral's Islands. The pontoon, present on all the islands, finally finds a use: the boat of Admiral, the character who took us to the island in Animal Crossing New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS, is now moored there. Once a day, the little captain can take us to a random island. This is the somewhat disappointing addition to this update: there is ultimately not much to do on these islands. They mainly make it possible to recover the vines and the schistostega, two new vegetations. Above all, it's an opportunity to collect gyroids every day, funny little mysterious statuettes that are an integral part of the Animal Crossing mythology. This remains little when you know that the trip costs 1000 Nook miles.

Finally, the last big addition is the Perchoir. This emblematic bar, run by the Robusto pigeon, has been around since Wild World, the Nintendo DS opus. This place and the darling of many fans on social media, who have been clamoring for its return since the release of New Horizons. A Spanish fan community has even been named after the Perch. This addition is honestly the least interesting. It is possible to go there for a hot drink, which does not bring much, and you can use amiibo cards to invite characters to the cafe. Of all the new features, this remains one of the most anecdotal.

Decorating is fun

In addition to a big update, Animal Crossing New Horizons therefore offers itself a DLC in the name that will not be foreign to fans of the license: Happy Home Paradise. In 2015 Nintendo published on 3DS Happy Home Designer, a spin-off of the license which proposed to decorate the houses of the different characters of the game. Here, the principle is the same but it is not a stand alone: a once the DLC is purchased, the player will have access to a new destination at the airport. A kind of holiday village established on an entire archipelago. As decorators, we will have to create the ideal home for each vacationer, including the garden. And each of them has their passions and preferences.

Rich in content, this DLC is a nice surprise. It offers real goals for players who struggle with the contemplative side of the license. Above all, it comes with an impressive amount of new items, which we dream of being able to add to our home. That said, you will have to be patient since these items are complicated to recover.

It is also an opportunity to obtain new features to decorate our homes. The DLC allows us, for example, to change the size of the rooms, to add low walls, columns… the opportunity to design ever more advanced interiors. The DLC actually combines very well with the update, which gives access to the ceiling to install chandeliers, for example.

Where Happy Home Paradise is well thought out is that access to new features is very progressive. Do not expect to decorate huge rooms from the start: it is over the renovations that we will unlock new possibilities, which will even make you want to return to our previous creations to embellish them even more.

Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise: the opinion of JVFR

Between the free update and the DLC, you will have a lot to do in November on your island. These two additions bring a lot of new content, and many new thoughtful features. The license returns to its roots by bringing back the Perchoir and the gyroids, and innovates with the vegetable garden and the kitchen. The opportunity to satisfy both new and old fans.

But this update is even tastier with the DLC. In particular, it offers an impressive number of possibilities in terms of interior decoration, to imagine the most original rooms. Happy Home Paradise also offers to design a school, a hospital or a restaurant, and then see the characters interact with the created decor. A real joy !

If some new features like the Admiral's Islands and the Perch are quite anecdotal, the update and the DLC have something to keep you busy for a while. New objects, new features, new challenges... the opportunity to relaunch Animal Crossing New Horizons if you had neglected the game a little since its release!
