In an in-house interview with Andrew Witts, Lead Multiplayer Designer forHalo Infinite for 343 Industries, the studio has shared new information on some well-known features of the genre FPS, who will be there at the end of the year.

With this new opus, 343 Industries intends to pay homage to the original work of Bungie while bringing a certain dose of modernity to the franchise. This therefore involves in particular the resumption of mechanics present in old opuses such as Halo 2 and 3, as well as new mechanics such as a “Ping” system, used in particular on Apex Legends.

Marking the target

During this interview aimed at promoting Halo Infinite and the long-term work done by 343 Industries in recent years, Andrew Witts particularly focused on a brand new feature for Halo multiplayer. Called the "Marking" here, competitive FPS fans know it better as "Ping."

Thus, it will be possible for everyone to score a point in the famous sandbox that are the multiplayer maps of Halo Infinite in order to inform their teammates of vital data to take into account such as the presence of an enemy or the position of a given weapon. To stay on the weapons, these will no longer appear randomly on the ground, but will have dedicated racks, scattered around each map.

This is where the homage to older Bungie titles comes in, as these racks have been used in Halo 2 and 3, both in single and multiplayer. These two new pieces of information are part of 343 Industries' desire to make Halo Infinite's multiplayer as accessible as possible without removing the substantial marrow.

A welcome initiative given the fact that it will be free-to-play and should therefore welcome a large number of new Spartans recruits. It remains to be seen by the end of the year on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S if these new elements will take root without distorting the original experience so dear to veterans.
