Turn10 Studios, creators of the franchise Force, recruit a software engineer to adapt the ForzaTech engine to none other than Fable.

The future candidate for the position will indeed have to become familiar with an engine that runs mechanics in order to “support an open-world action-RPG – Fable”. During the July 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, the announcement of the return of this cult franchise was the highlight of the show, and we had not heard from the project until this job posting.

As a reminder, the ForzaTech engine is the one that powers the recent Forza Horizons in particular and brings to life the best Xbox exclusives have to offer. It is therefore not surprising that, for the return with fanfare of a cult franchise of the brand like Fable, the choice of engine fell on this one. Especially since the development of this new episode will be provided by a second studio from Playground Games, responsible for recent Forza titles.

The job offer that interests us here therefore indicates that the future software engineer for Fable will be responsible for integrating “new functionalities such as ray tracing”. This is to bring “a major impact on AAA titles in development”.

The job posting specifies that this job will serve not only for Fable, but also for two other Xbox franchises. Regarding these two other franchises, we could count on Perfect Dark and Everwild, two licenses which promise to be flagships for Microsoft's gaming branch, and which should not be released for years.

A Fable surrounded by good storytellers

If we are not close to seeing Fable return to the front of the stage for years, it seems that the project is particularly well overseen.

We find there, for example, Anna Megil, Narrative Director of Dishonored: The Death of the Outsider, from the Lyon studio Arkane. Or Will Kennedy, having worked on GTA V and recruited for the Fable project as chief designer.

Juan Fernández de Simón, who worked on Hellblade, was named lead game designer for this project. Adam Olsson, formerly at Ubisoft for The Division 2, is serving as lead environmental artist.

Some very nice people to write us a very beautiful Fable, which unfortunately we should not listen to for many years.
