Days Gone 2: an update on the improvements that Bend Studio wanted to make

It's a bit like the soap opera of the last few days. The canceled sequel Days Gone resurfaces through yet another statement from the director of the first opus. We discover on this occasion some improvements that could have been made to the second episode.

After a chaotic development and rather mixed ratings via the specialized press, Days Gone was finally shelved by Sony despite perfectly honorable sales. However, the Bend Studio teams were already thinking of a Days Gone 2 before the Japanese manufacturer chose to cancel it.

A suite full of ideas

Today, it is once again Jeff Ross, the director of Days Gone before his departure from Sony, who shares with us the tracks formerly considered for this sequel. Bend Studio presumably wanted to focus the script on the relationship between Deacon and Sarah. The gameplay was also to undergo modifications based on the data collected from the players on the first episode.

Interestingly, most in-game deaths were caused by the player themselves. And 75% of the time, it was after a drowning. Thus, Days Gone 2 should have allowed us to swim. Finally, the open world had to be more dynamic, including walking animals (bears, wolves, etc.) as well as more varied encounters with allies and enemies. Alas, we will probably never have the opportunity to appreciate these novelties…
