Last week, Sony Interactive Entertainment formalized the takeover of the Housemarque studio. A natural rapprochement since the two companies have been working together for several years. However, this marriage could have been compromised…

In recent days, the Japanese manufacturer has been shopping by offering Nixxes Software (a studio specializing in PC ports) and of course Housemarque. After the excellent Returnal, the Finnish firm was thrust into the limelight like never before. Something to stir up lusts within the video game industry.

Sony wins the bet

During an interview with the Finnish media YIe, Ilari Kuittinen, CEO of Housemarque, succinctly went behind the scenes of this takeover. And Sony was obviously not the only company in the race to carry out this operation. "I have to say that we had a very special spring and the fact that several companies were fighting to buy us out is quite surreal."

Among the candidates, the main interested party cites in particular major players in the sector located in China, the USA and even Sweden. “It became clear during our discussions that Sony wanted to buy us out because we were able to do something special that the others weren't doing. Their original intention was not to see us create games according to a formula dictated by Sony”. Housemarque should therefore retain all its creative freedom.
