Babylon's Fall faces a complicated launch and struggles to bring players together

Remember: at E3 2018, Square Enix struck a blow with the revelation of Babylon's Fall. Despite the event, which was extremely rich in announcements during this edition, the future game from Platinum Games was able to do well, before dazzling us with its frantic action a few months later.

After long months of waiting, the game has finally launched on PC, PS5 and PS4, but the turn taken by the title, in particular its game-service aspect sold at a high price, seems to have cooled the players.

The studio had accustomed us to real successes, including NieR: Automata which is certainly the most flamboyant of PlatinumGames' creations, in particular thanks to its frenetic gameplay. Naturally, gamers were expecting the same when Babylon's Fall was announced, just over a year after the last NieR was released. However, as feared, the launch of the action-RPG could not be more winded.

Launched in the heart of a period during which video game releases follow one another at a very sustained pace, Babylon's Fall was already starting with a slight handicap, even if the studio had put the forms for its release by publishing, yesterday, a trailer reminding everyone of the title's availability as of March 3.

Faced with the behemoths of the moment, Babylon's Fall has certainly attracted players but the counters are at their lowest. Currently, attendance figures are barely reaching the 600 mark, and the maximum number recorded is not much higher with a cap of 650 players at launch. Same observation on the side of the Twitch platform where the figures also plummet, going from 3 spectators to just under 000 this Friday morning.

Both on the side of the players and the press, the opinions are not kind and point the finger at certain aspects such as the significant presence of micro-transactions or the graphics below expectations. It remains to be seen what the publisher, Square Enix, will think about it, which was already complaining about the sales of Guardians of the Galaxy, which were clearly higher than those of Babylon's Fall.
