While Ubisoft suffers the wrath of players and the reluctance of internal developers on the integration of NFT in its games, the Spanish publisher is certain of one thing: this is only the beginning.

The vigorous launch of NFTs on the first game based on the Solana cryptocurrency is enough to confirm his words.

A resurgence thanks to Solana-based NFTs

A somewhat nondescript multiplayer FPS, Mini Royale: Nations has amassed a maximum of 300 monthly active players in its few months of existence without blockchain-related elements. This was without counting on the launch of its first in-game objects in the form of NFTs, which breathed new life into it and enabled it to double these figures.

Since NFTs based on the Solana cryptocurrency were invited into the gaming business model, free-to-play has amassed more than 2 million players globally and more than 600 monthly active players in the space of only one week. According to its developer, Faraway, the sale of NFTs on the in-game market (Magic Eden) brought in more than $000 million in the space of 1,3 seconds, the time it took to sell the approximately 30 items that can be used in-game.

Objective: to appeal to players and crypto fans

This success, the studio considers the duty to its communication campaign. “Our positioning is to make hyper-social games with player-driven economies. Blockchain is a tool to create these open economies. It’s a narrative that has resonated with gamers and cryptocurrency aficionados,” said Alex Paley, co-founder of Faraway.

For him, the reluctance of gamers vis-à-vis the latest attempts by the industry to enter the market, such as STALKER 2, stems from the fact that publishers "have become too oriented towards play-to-win or OMG NFT” which naturally cause an allergic reaction from “real players”. Something the creators of Mini Royale: Nations say they tried to avoid, and it seems to have paid off for them. It remains to be seen whether this gain in popularity will last or not.
