For a few years now, solo games with a strong narrative dimension have constituted a large majority of the toy library. first-party from PlayStation. And at a time when the Japanese giant is taking over studios with a philosophy that differs somewhat from its DNA, this strategy would not be the signal for a change of direction.

In an interview with Games Industry, Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, officially spoke about the brand's editorial direction for the coming years.

PlayStation will not deny its know-how

At the time, it is true that the exclusive catalog offered by Sony left room for a plethora of categories of titles. But after the predominance of Gran Turismo or even Crash Bandicoot, it was with the arrival of the PS3 that the manufacturer's editorial line really began to take shape around narrative-oriented productions (Uncharted, The Last of Us, etc.). . A strategy that was clearly seen propelled by the PS4 and which seems destined to continue on PS5.

But after the recent takeovers of Bungie and Haven Studios by PlayStation, a question could then seriously arise: will Sony drift from its philosophy in order to embrace, perhaps, a new editorial line? Here is what Hermen Hulst answered in the columns of Games Industry on this subject:

“Obviously we will always continue to make these narrative games like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us and Horizon Forbidden West.”

If the desire to invest in service games is "exciting" for PlayStation, as Hermen Hulst mentioned in this interview, it is nevertheless reassuring to learn that the Japanese will not neglect his field of expertise, namely narrative productions.
