Sony Interactive Entertainment continues its momentum by formalizing the acquisition of a new studio. After Bungie in January, it is the turn of a team set up very recently to pass under the bosom of the Japanese manufacturer.

By acquiring the studio behind Destiny earlier this year, PlayStation endorsed its new strategy to offer more connected experiences. Indeed, the Japanese firm has been shining for several years above all thanks to its solo playable experiences. Its catalog of exclusives is therefore not very extensive on the side of “multiplayer” productions. But the efforts made by Sony in recent months should change the situation.

A studio that has everything to prove

Thus, the PlayStation Studios entity now welcomes Haven Studios, a company based in Montreal and directed by Jade Raymond. Opened in 2021, the studio in question is currently working on “an AAA multiplayer experience” which was precisely supported financially by Sony. The builder said it was "inspired" by Haven's vision for this multiplayer title that will bring "players together in a positive and meaningful way."

The takeover will allow Haven teams to collaborate with renowned studios such as Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games and Insomniac Games. PlayStation seems more motivated than ever to invest in "game as a service" while offering solo blockbusters in parallel. Still, Haven Studios still hasn't shown its new multiplayer license yet...
