Since its announcement during the Opening Night Live of the Gamescom 2021, Marvel's Midnight Suns displays a well-rehearsed communication, between image publications, clarifications from the developer and the publisher and, of course, extracts from gameplay. But all this was just a taste of a larger presentation released last night by Firaxis and 2K Games.

During these twenty minutes devoted to the gameplay of the game and captured from the PC version of the game, the developers, including the creative director Jake Solomon, followed one another to comment on three distinct sequences.

Marvel superheroes hold the cards

From the introduction of the first sequence, the presentation lifted the veil on the interface of the game and the deck-building system that we had been hearing about since the revelation of the next software from Firaxis. This card system, which is close to a Slay the Spire, will be added to the tactical aspect that the developers have developed in the past thanks to the XCOM license.

Among the cards available to superheroes, there are three types of cards: while some trigger basic, local or zone attacks, others have special effects, even special abilities that are linked to the different characters.

This profusion of superpowers will affect the environment and the sets, since they are destructible. We can notably see the rendering during the boss fight which opposes, among others, Wolverine to Sabretooth in the middle of the video.

For the moment, the construction of the deck itself has not been mentioned, but it should be illustrated later. Firaxis and 2K Games preferred, for the occasion, to focus on the deck-building gameplay of the game before closing the presentation with the narrative aspects of the software, scheduled for March 2022.
