After landing on PC in May with several damages, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey needs a few more repairs before colonizing old and new generation consoles.

Crash landing

Seven years after the release of the original game, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey was a new breath of fresh air to attract those who prefer to travel on foot rather than by ship. A way also to compete with a certain Star Citizen, which aims to be just as complete in the space exploration aspect.

However, like its counterpart, this new project encountered many problems during its transition into the atmosphere. Many particularly annoying bugs, visual or otherwise, have indeed greatly harmed this refreshing experience for the title. Frontier Developments quickly became aware of this and therefore set about deploying emergency repairs, promising that the situation was “seriously taken into account and that it is their highest priority”.

A major update in June went a long way to fixing Odyssey's many issues, but Frontier Developments isn't yet satisfied with the overall stability. The studio therefore prefers to focus on the present before turning its gaze to other platforms.

Abort Mission

This is indeed what David Braben, CEO of Frontier Developments, announced in the evening on the Elite Dangerous forums. Odyssey was indeed to be deployed on old and new generation consoles in 2021, but the current situation of PC gaming requires this project to be postponed until further notice.

“As you can recall from our last dev diary, the significant amount of updates and effort put into fixing and improving the issues that plagued Odyssey's launch means that work on the console versions is no longer has not progressed as quickly as we hoped. Additionally, we see that the progress made on the last five major updates has greatly improved the situation, but we need to continue on this path in order to deliver the PC experience you expect from us,” he said. so stated.

David Braben also pointed out that the work done on the PC version to make it stable will also prove beneficial for the console versions. A wise decision after all, although it will not appeal to those wishing to explore and tread space from their living room. This will require patience, the release of Odyssey on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S being postponed to an indefinite date.
