Capcom would like to make the PC a preferred platform for its next games

On the eve of the arrival of Monster hunter rise on PC, Capcom's chief operating officer has indicated that he wants to make the latter a preferred platform for the Japanese giant's next games.

In any case, this is what emerges from an interview with our Japanese colleagues at Nikkei with the person concerned, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, on the occasion of the Tokyo Game Show 2021, translated into English by reporter Takashi Mochizuki for Bloomberg .

PC as Preferred by Capcom

Long shunned by Capcom, the PC has over the years become a platform for which the Japanese giant has shown growing interest. It started in particular in a tentative way with Resident Evil 4. The PC port, however, did not do justice to this monument of the Resident Evil franchise, with a technique that left something to be desired and poorly adapted controls.

Little by little, however, Capcom has corrected the situation and most of its titles are now coming to PC, with all the advantages that this platform offers compared to older generation consoles or the Nintendo Switch. Resident Evil 2 Remake and 3, Resident Evil Village or even Devil May Cry 5 have notably been the subject of a particularly neat PC port.

An interest carried in particular by a certain Monster Hunter: World. Originally released on PS4 and Xbox One, Capcom's action-RPG owes its phenomenal success to a PC port eight months after its console release. It was therefore not surprising that Capcom decided to also bring Monster Hunter Rise – which is and will remain a Nintendo Switch console exclusive – to PC for the time being.

A choice motivated by edifying results

Based on these results, according to the Nikkei report, Capcom intends to make 50% of its sales on PC and 50% on consoles for the years 2022 and 2023 to come. Capcom's financial reports notably indicated that Monster Hunter: World sold much better on PC than on consoles in the West.

Similarly, the Resident Evil franchise was the first in Capcom's history to exceed 100 million copies sold worldwide, thanks in particular to the PC porting of all the latest titles. Many players have indeed been able to discover through this the vast catalog of Capcom, hitherto exclusively reserved for certain very specific consoles for each title.

This decision put forward by Haruhiro Tsujimoto therefore makes sense, financially speaking, as the Japanese giant experienced a 2021% increase in its video game sales figures in July 25,6, to reach the modest value of 691,3 million. dollars. We should therefore expect to see even more Capcom games land on PC. Not necessarily exclusive, or maybe temporary, before they arrive on consoles later.
