The first consoles to support Dolby Vision Gaming

If Microsoft tends to pamper both its PC and console communities, that does not prevent it from making giant strides for the Xbox Series. Official support for Dolby Vision Gaming, for the first time on consoles, is just the latest step in a long-standing partnership between the two entities. This started in 2017 with Dolby Atmos to deliver better sound quality on Xbox, then with Dolby Vision in 2018.

Now, the two Dolby technologies are an integral part of the Xbox Series through the name Dolby Vision Gaming. Thus, this partnership will continue and will allow Microsoft consoles to benefit from the developments made to them by Dolby.

For the time being, more than a hundred games already released or to come are guaranteed to benefit from this technology. The American giant ensures that thousands of other older games will also be able to benefit from it, in order to offer HDR10 and Auto HDR versions. To make this possible, Microsoft, Dolby and the game developers are currently working hand in hand.

A Dolby Vision compatible TV will be required

To take advantage of the official integration of Dolby Vision Gaming on Xbox Series X | S, it will however be imperative to have a compatible television. If this is the case, the transition of compatible games to Dolby Vision Gaming version should be done automatically. Otherwise, you will have to go to the settings of one or the other console in order to activate it manually. It should also be ensured that both TV and console are using the latest firmware.

For better visual immersion, Microsoft ensures that Dolby Vision Gaming is fully compatible with the latest generation features. It will thus be possible to complete the picture with DirectX ray tracing, automatic low latency mode (ALLM in English) and variable refresh rate (VRR in English), which will be able to display games up to 120 fps, depending on the capabilities of the TV.

According to Microsoft, this unique partnership will deliver up to 40 times brighter lighting, up to 10 times deeper dark levels and up to 12-bit color depth. Enough to potentially arm yourself well to enjoy current and future games supporting Dolby Vision Gaming, both on Xbox Series and via Game Pass.
