Before reaching its ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, Microsoft is working to improve its consoles ecologically with new features.

Xbox Series X and S can now download updates in low power mode.

Eco-friendly feature

Microsoft is rolling out a feature to make the Xbox Series X and S more eco-friendly. The latest consoles from the Redmond company will now be able to download updates in the background with the energy saving mode. "It consumes about 20 times less energy than standby mode when the console is not in use or updating," the brand explains in a post detailing its efforts in terms of sustainable development.

Microsoft also announces that this energy saving mode is now activated by default when players configure their Xbox Series for the first time. “This saves energy across the entire Xbox ecosystem,” the company explains. An initiative to be welcomed, especially since it does not intend to spare its efforts on the ecological level. The Redmond giant also explains that it has integrated an improved power monitoring system on a few new consoles. This will allow it to anonymously collect data to better understand how to further reduce the consumption of its consoles.
