Is Microsoft really creating a monopoly in the video game industry as its detractors claim?

The answer is no, and to support it, a new infographic illustrates the complexity of the world of video games by listing which publishers hold which studios and for which licenses.

The video game industry is changing. The Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard takeovers have rocked the gaming world lately, but studio acquisitions have been on the rise in recent years. Between Tencent who likes to nibble shares of several companies or Embracer who acquires them with a vengeance, there is something to get lost in. To try to help the general public find their way around, an Internet user has published an infographic summarizing the distribution of the studios and strong licenses of each team.



The opportunity to distinguish the studios acquired by Tencent from those in which the Chinese giant has only invested, like Dontnod, indicated by a green border on the infographic.

It is obviously still very difficult to summarize the complexity of the industry in a single image. For example, The Outer Worlds is displayed in the stable in Take-Two while Microsoft now owns the rights to it, while Borderlands still published at 2K only appears at Embracer Group. We nevertheless take advantage of a summary of securities held by the major groups…
