Last May, to celebrate 30 years of Sonic, SEGA formalized the start of construction of a “next-gen” opus.

Very recently, the Japanese firm registered the domain name Sonic Frontiers…

An imminent announcement for Sonic Frontiers?

In addition to the poor remake of Sonic Colors launched recently, SEGA intends to celebrate 30 years of Sonic by formalizing the "new" Sonic very soon, a new generation episode necessarily highly anticipated at the turn. Last May, as part of a stream dedicated to the 30th anniversary of its mascot, SEGA unveiled a short trailer to formalize the development of this new game to come.

Today, we learn that SEGA would have registered the domain name Sonic Frontiers, which could therefore constitute the definitive name of this future Sonic… but also another project signed SEGA, revolving around its famous blue mascot. For some players, this Sonic could take on the air of Breath of the Wild (yes, yes!), With a mix of platform phases, races, puzzles to solve and boss fights.

Note that this same name Sonic Frontiers was registered last month by SEGA with the competent authorities. According to some rumors, this new "Sonic next-gen" was initially destined to be called Sonic Rangers, before this SEGA finally decided to opt for Frontiers.

This episode could lay new foundations for the franchise and thus overcome the boundaries established so far. We obviously hope that this Sonic will manage to be more convincing than the last “Sonic next-gen” to date, namely the opus launched in 2006 on PS3 and Xbox 360.
