War in Ukraine: video game studios are mobilizing

In the first 24 hours after Russia's attack on Ukraine, the whole world was moved by this event and expressed its indignation. Video game players have also given their support to the Ukrainian people in large numbers, and some have even mobilized financially to help civilians and the armed forces.

Numerous appeals for donations have been shared by players in the video game industry, particularly in Europe, to support the Ukrainian people and the studios located in the attacked country.

A mainly European mobilization (for the moment)

Emotion gripped the world after Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday morning. This invasion is described by many leaders as unworthy and dangerous. The first battles have already killed several dozen Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. The video game industry, which is widely established internationally, was quick to react to this attack, and many players published messages of support and appeals for donations.

Many European studios or publishers have mobilized to provide assistance to civilian populations. The Polish studio 11 bit studios, behind the anti-war game This War of Mine, announced on social networks its willingness to give 100% of the profits generated by the purchase of the game and its DLC, regardless of the platform, for seven days at the Ukrainian Red Cross. This decision is supported by his Polish compatriots from Good Old Games (GOG) who announce that they will donate, to the Red Cross as well, all of their percentage of profits for the purchase of the game on their platform.

Raw Fury is also going to donate to the Red Cross and is urging players, in a tweet, to do the same by sharing the donation link. On the United States side, if the reaction of the major players has not yet taken place at the time of this writing, Bungie has spoken and will give 100% of the donations received during the first 48 hours of its charity event. annual Game2Give to humanitarian associations in Ukraine.

In Ukraine, resilience

Ukrainian studios, which are directly suffering from the Russian attack, reacted very quickly on social networks, both to denounce the events and to reassure their community. Sengi Games (The Serpent Rogue), Vostok Games (Survivarium) or even Frogwares (The Sinking City) spoke on the subject and called for an end to “Russian aggression”.

GSC Game World, the studio currently developing the highly anticipated STALKER 2, released a statement to the networks calling for concrete actions from other industry players and their fans. In particular, he asked them to make donations to an aid account for the Ukrainian armed forces, created by the National Bank of Ukraine.
