Expected early next year with cautious curiosity by fans on Nintendo Switch, Pokemon Legends: Arceus might not be what it originally promised.

Update 11/10:

Following Joe Merrick's discoveries, our colleagues at Kotaku wanted to confirm the rumor by contacting the developers of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The latter split a statement indicating that the future Pokémon game will definitely not display a real open world.

“In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the main village will serve as a base for investigation missions. After receiving a summons or request and preparing for their next excursion, trainers will leave the village to study one of the various open areas in the Hisui region. Once their task is completed, they will have to return to the village for their next mission. We look forward to sharing more Hisui exploration information soon.”

Thus, the world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be well divided into different areas that can be visited in the heart of the vast region of Hisui, instead of offering completely free exploration within it.

Screenshots of the game's map from Pokémon expert Joe Merrick on Twitter suggest that Game Freak's next title will actually feature different area segments instead of a single open area.

A segmented wind of freedom

The two images in question show us two large regions that will be present in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The second image, which interests us here, displays what appear to be different areas separated by dotted lines. This could mean that each area thus delimited would be an explorable area, but that it will be necessary to go through a loading time or something similar in order to leave it.

A revelation that seems accepted by Joe Merrick and the various people who reacted to its publication. It could also be a good choice for the game's overall performance, which has been quite disappointing in recent gameplay videos. However, that would go against the stated promise of this new Pokémon game. We can also fear that this choice will harm the overall experience if you have to chain loading times to arrive at your next destination.

However, we will have to wait for Game Freak to tell us more about its promising project on paper, but which raises many questions and concerns. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is in any case expected for the time being on January 28, 2022 exclusively on Switch.
