Announced in early April, Epic Games' State of Unreal, airing on Twitch and YouTube, kicked things off with a keynote full of important information for the impressive Unreal Engine 5.

Starting today, any budding developer can download Unreal Engine 5 for free and experiment with this awesome engine. Like the Unreal Engine 4, the use of the standard license will be completely free, provided that the game developed has not earned a million dollars in revenue.

Everyone can therefore try out the intriguing technologies Nanite (geometry), Lumen (lighting), Temporal Super Resolution (image scaling) or MetaSounds (procedural audio). However, the nascent engine still needs to be refined on many points.
