With the release of Xbox Series X | S, it's time to discover our selection of the 10 best games to discover on Microsoft's machines. We will therefore briefly present to you the titles that have marked these last years. Note that we wanted to highlight a variety of productions so that each player can find an experience that suits them.
But before we get into the nitty-gritty, we have to point out that every game is available through the Xbox Game Pass console. Admittedly, Microsoft reigns supreme in racing games with the Forza franchise. However, it is the arcade version of the license that is popular with players. It is therefore not trivial to find Forza Horizon 4 on the highest step of our podium. Released in 2018, this opus goes far beyond the traditional linear circuits generally offered by a game of this ilk.
It was in 2012 that this spin-off to the Forza Motorsport saga arrived on Xbox 360. Forza Horizon offers a gigantic playground allowing the pilot to wander around the map in order to participate in different activities on board several hundred cars purchasable via in-game currency. This formula has proven itself and six years later, Forza Horizon 4 is considered one of the best games of the PS4 / Xbox One generation.
An unforgettable road trip
Forza Horizon 4 takes us to the roads of Great Britain. If this destination is necessarily less exotic than the Australia of the third episode, it is no less exotic. Of course, no scenario here except the fact that the player participates in the Horizon festival during which he must chain the events. In addition to the classic races which consist of doing several laps on the same circuit, the title offers a multitude of disciplines and small challenges to achieve. All of this is scattered all over the map. The progression is punctuated by rallies, spectacular races that can ask us to face a train running at full speed, for example. We take full view!
And it is in the first place the superb graphics of Forza Horizon 4 that impress. Already breathtaking on Xbox One, the aesthetic of the game signed Playground Games is all the more realistic on Xbox Series X, all in 4K at 60fps. In addition, the seasons change as you progress and the weather changes the map accordingly. Despite its two years of existence, the app practically seems to have been designed for Microsoft's next-gen machines. And the content is not left out with more than 450 drivable vehicles and the many radio stations that broadcast excellent songs.
To top it all off, Forza Horizon 4 offers a connected dimension (and a battle royale mode) that isn't too invasive. There is clearly something for everyone and the developers are following up exemplarily on their baby with regular additions of racing cars and additional tests. Not to mention the very qualitative Fortune Island and LEGO Speed Champions extensions which inflate the already monstrous lifespan of the title. Forza Horizon 4 is a model to follow!

After a stellar and remarkable launch on PC, the 2020 edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator made its grand debut on Xbox Series X|S a year later. If the Spanish studio Asobo could have been satisfied with a simple port, it is clear that this version for home consoles goes much further. The objective of making the driving simulation both demanding for veterans and accessible for beginners is perfectly achieved.
The Flight Simulator franchise has been delighting PC gamers for nearly four decades. But only confined to our computers, the Microsoft saga was aimed so far at a niche audience. This small pitfall will not finally be corrected until 2021 with the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator on the new Xboxes. The transition from one platform to another will have taken almost a full year, but the result obtained is clearly worth the detour... Because much more than a simple game, this opus is a real attraction for all globe-trotters and globe-trotters. second hands.
The journey has only just begun
The concept of Microsoft Flight Simulator is quite simple on paper. Indeed, the title signed Asobo Studio lets us pilot many planes in this formidable playground that is the whole Earth! Simulation requires, piloting is tedious to say the least at the start and in particular with an Xbox controller which has a much lower number of buttons compared to a computer keyboard. Fortunately, the developers have thought of everything since there is a multitude of assistance to configure according to everyone's tastes. Thus, a route can be transformed into a real obstacle course or a simple walk during which we can quietly admire the landscape.
Because it is also the strength of the latest Flight Simulator to date. All major tourist sites have been accurately modeled using photogrammetry. The free World Updates deployed over the months on PC are included in this edition. They give life to different places (Japan, Germany, Spain, Belgium...) which thus benefit from the most realistic modeling. Overall, the game is absolutely stunning. We take full the peepers at every moment without ever getting tired. Flying over the Eiffel Tower, the pyramids of Giza or Everest without moving from our sofa has something magical about it. Discovery flights even allow you to appreciate these unique places without worrying about piloting.
Whether it's thanks to the many well-thought-out tutorials, the multiple setting options or even the fairly high difficulty challenges, Microsoft Flight Simulator adapts to all levels. Nothing better than a short flight to decompress. With its assumed general public dimension, the title of the American manufacturer will even go so far as to attract the attention of those refractory to the world of video games as a whole. And like all Xbox exclusives, Flight Simulator is included in Game Pass. To test it is to adopt it.
3. Ori and the Will of the Wisps, a nugget with ideas

Here is a license that really stands out from the action-packed titles that Microsoft is used to serving us on its media. This Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks like a completely independent game that relies on its artistic direction and easy-to-learn gameplay. But it also hides a rare depth for a game of this type.
After a first episode as refreshing as it is aesthetically flamboyant, the little creature named Ori is making a comeback in an unprecedented epic and proud of its origins. We are therefore faced with a Metroidvania which forces the player to go back and forth in order to unearth all the secrets scattered in certain areas once the right ability has been acquired. The progression is intended to be fairly linear but nevertheless pleasant with some difficulty peaks that put our talents to the test.
A real beauty
Moon Studios has applied itself to granting new powers to Ori. Our hero can use them to overcome obstacles and defeat his increasingly formidable enemies. But here again, it is above all the beauty of the scenery that inflicts a serious slap on the person holding the controller. Like the first opus, the artistic direction is masterful and without any lack of taste. The impression of surveying an animated painting is omnipresent. And what about rendering on the latest Xbox whose performance really makes you want to restart a game.
The dozen hours of play with this dear Ori is also a treat for our ears. Gareth Coker's melodies are without a doubt some of the best heard in the wonderful world of video games. Playing with headphones is strongly recommended to fully appreciate the work of the British composer.
If it can be perceived as a simple evolution compared to the 2015 episode, Ori and the Will of the Wisps will look further by constantly renewing itself and staging a rhythmic adventure. The title is full of mysteries to discover and does not hesitate to play with the emotions of the player from the first minutes thanks to an introduction as beautiful as it is heartbreaking.
4. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, the master of Western RPGs

The witcher is timeless! A prominent guest in many selections of all kinds, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a game that has become legendary despite its relatively recent release in May 2015. And thanks to the Xbox Game Pass, everyone can step into the shoes of Geralt de Riv at lower cost. And the CD Projekt RED software therefore deserves a place of choice in this top!
With this opus, CD Projekt RED has not only revolutionized its flagship license but also a whole section of the action-RPG genre. Indeed, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is the first game in the trilogy to opt for a huge open world without putting aside the beloved storytelling of the two previous iterations. The end result is, to say the least, convincing for a title that immediately became an undisputed reference in terms of role-playing games.
A bewitching witcher
Is it really useful to detail for the hundredth time the story of The Witcher 3? Suffice it to say that our dear Geralt sets off in search of his adopted daughter Ciri on a journey that will take him through the desolate plains of Velen, the tortured city of Novigrad and the snow-capped peaks of the Isles of Skellige. Impossible not to be captivated by such a vast playground with its dozens of exciting side quests to complete. Because in The Witcher 3, everything or almost has a meaning and an exemplary narration comes to dress up the smallest additional activity.
Of course, the title is an undeniable success from an artistic and technical point of view. The magnificent panoramas are linked during a sunset or a violent storm. The wind rushes through the forests, cracking the branches of the trees. The visual and sonic ambiance distilled by The Witcher 3 has hardly ever been matched. And what to say when confronting a disreputable creature that terrorizes the population?! The battles are as epic as they are demanding to fully master.
If its handling a bit rough has often been criticized for The Witcher 3, it is nonetheless pleasant to browse. The CD Projekt RED software never falls into the traps of overly ambitious open-worlds and puts the package on its exciting scenario carried by ultra charismatic characters. It's the benchmark for Western-style RPGs right now!

What would Xbox be without Halo? This iconic FPS saga has marked each console generation from the American manufacturer. In order to pay homage to the fabulous legacy left by the Major in armour, the 343 Industries studio has concocted a compilation bringing together all the opuses of the main saga. And so this game is called Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
The program for this selection is therefore loaded to say the least. Indeed, on one and the same cake (not to mention a few additional downloads), players can immerse themselves in Halo first of the name but also in Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4 and Halo Reach. Dozens of hours of play await us through the single-player campaigns of these titles. But we must not omit the presence of competitive or cooperative multiplayer modes that have shaped the legend of this license initially imagined by Bungie.
A Reach collection in content
This Halo: The Master Chief Collection is therefore the ideal compilation to discover the license before the arrival of Halo Infinite in 2021. Fortunately, these are not simple ports. Indeed, a real visual overhaul has been carried out on the oldest titles. This is particularly the case for Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 2. With the simple press of a button, the player can alternate between the graphics of the period and the remastered version. A perfect compromise between modernity and nostalgia.
It should also be noted that this is really the perfect time to dive into Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Indeed, an optimization for the Xbox Series X | S was deployed in November 2020. On the more powerful of the two machines, the resolution therefore increases to 4K and up to 120fps in the campaign as well as in multiplayer. The split screen has also been improved for the occasion.
The developers have not stopped there because the soundtrack has also been re-orchestrated to come and sublimate the sequences with the epic staging of which Halo has the secret. Whether it's to (re)discover the missions in solo or to spend time in multiplayer, Halo: The Master Chief Collection has everything you need. It has more than enough to satisfy fans of first-person shooters.
6. Psychonauts 2, the one who hides his game well

It will have been desired for a long time, but the second opus of the slightly wacky license imagined by Double Fine is finally among us. If Psychonauts 2 takes up the main lines of its predecessor released in April 2005, it comes to sublimate all aspects thanks to controlled platform phases as well as delicious dialogues. In addition, the game allows itself to deal with relatively serious subjects with a certain brilliance and without ever falling into one-upmanship. That's why it deserves a place of choice in our top.
If Microsoft bought the studio behind Psychonauts 2 in 2019, you should know that this sequel is not exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem. Indeed, the development had already started several years before after a successful crowdfunding campaign. If we could have fears about the final quality of such a project, we must admit that Double Fine Productions took its time in order to deliver an experience faithful to the DNA of the (short) saga. Whether through its charismatic characters, its colorful aesthetics or its cleverly dosed humor, this new Psychonauts ticks all the boxes to appeal to a wide audience.
A nice brainstorm
It is this dear Razputin Aquato (or Raz for friends) who plays the main role of this psychedelic epic. Our hero belongs to the Psychonauts brigade. This unit works directly on the brains of its opponents to modify their behavior. Psychonauts 2's primary strength is in its painstakingly modeled environments with charming art direction. Each location has a unique identity that reflects the state of mind of the enemy (or sometimes the friend) targeted by our young hero. Thus, the very concept of the title is quite atypical and gives rise to visually impressive sequences.
In its overall structure, Psychonauts 2 remains a fairly classic platformer punctuated by combats that are fairly simple to tackle. Exploration is also necessary since the levels are full of objects to pick up. Also, Raz's abilities can be upgraded as the game progresses. This brings a nice little RPG touch. So to speak, this suite plays on several tables but never gets lost along the way. The whole being sublimated by a writing with small onions. Our protagonist and his companions do not miss an opportunity to strike a few well-placed jokes without ever falling into pompous repetition.
Psychonauts 2 is an affordable game that also hides a second level of reading that deals with more serious subjects. The dialogues are therefore ideally calibrated and the absurd situations that follow one another over the hours inevitably make you smile. The quality is there in almost all areas and the chapters go by at breakneck speed. An adventure that should charm young and old alike without any problem.

Let's dwell on a game that forged its fame thanks to Xbox Game Pass (and its undeniable qualities of course). It is the Mobius Digital studio which is at the origin of this absolutely tasty video game UFO. This title is clearly worth the detour and is positioned among the best games released in 2019.
This story is not necessarily known to the general public, but you should know that Mobius Digital was founded by a certain Masi Oka. The Japanese actor is known for his roles in several successful series including Heroes or Hawaii 5-0. But it is to Alex Beachum and his entire team (about a dozen people in total) that we owe Outer Wilds. This game is based on a fascinating and somewhat destabilizing concept that makes it an extraordinary experience.
How time passes
Outer Wilds takes us to a fictional star system and more mainly to the planet of Heartwood which serves as the starting point for this space epic. Quickly, and thanks to a space program, the player finds himself at the controls of a small ship allowing him to explore the planets of the system in question. The main goal being to understand what happened to the lost civilization of the Nomai. It is therefore an artistically very successful open world that opens up to the player after a few minutes of play. But the real interest of the game lies elsewhere...
In Outer Wilds, time is essential. Over the minutes, the planets that can be explored see their environment change. New places are accessible, others close and events are triggered at a specific time. Because, without saying too much, the title takes us into a time loop (of which we leave you the leisure to discover the origin). Thus, every second is precious to make smart use of the time we have left. To discover secrets, you have to solve riddles, decipher ancient texts and above all carefully observe the scenery around you.
A small survival dimension is part of it since we have to pay attention to our oxygen gauge and the deadly traps (more or less natural) that close on our avatar at the slightest error. After all, space is a dangerous place! Outer Wilds is both haunting and relaxing, yet can be devilishly oppressive and stressful. But above all, it is an incredible work of art that will fascinate space exploration enthusiasts.

It is undoubtedly one of the most successful FPS of the Xbox One generation. DOOM Eternal unfolds a real masterclass with its unbridled action and its totally assumed excessive gore side. It is also a demanding shooter in which the player feels an almost guilty satisfaction when eviscerating a demon. In short, it's DOOM!
The franchise published by Bethesda Softworks experienced an almost unexpected resurrection with the episode released in 2016. Assuming its nag aspect even if it means relegating its scenario to the background, this game has assumed the legacy of the first opuses which have entered into legend. DOOM Eternal is logically in continuity even if it allows itself some surprising deviations. It is nonetheless a game mastered from start to finish with an ultra enjoyable gameplay as a bonus.
Demons better watch out
DOOM Eternal is the direct sequel to the opus arrived in 2016. The DOOM Slayer is back to knock out as many demons as possible who are unleashed on our poor planet which did not ask for so much. The scenario is tight, but fans attentive to detail can read the many documents to collect over the course of the adventure to learn more about the events in progress. But the game focuses above all on the intensive slaughter of demons. For this, our avatar has a classic and destructive arsenal with surprising new features (like the grappling hook for example).
From start to finish, this DOOM Eternal is a real treat. The chapters are linked with disconcerting fluidity (in 60fps) but that does not mean that the game is easy. Quite the contrary! In order not to die, the player must intelligently juggle his weapons while constantly moving. It takes some time to master the gameplay, especially since the title has chosen to add a "platform game" side with sometimes very tense courses to understand without falling into the void.
For the rest, we are faced with classic DOOM. Advance, shoot, reload and repeat. The Glory Kills introduced in 2016 are also back with ever more powerful and bloody stagings. Finally, Eternal is beautiful to die for and its soundtrack based on metal is ultra effective. The DOOM formula seems to have peaked with this episode. A must!

What better than a good JRPG to escape for hours in the heart of an enchanting universe full of possibilities? This is exactly what Tales of Arise offers. Bandai Namco went through a series of tests before finding the perfect formula. This new opus is a kind of big synthesis of all the qualities seen in the previous games. The result is clear, we are faced with an ultra generous and masterfully orchestrated title.
Long remained quite confidential in the West, the Tales of franchise has forged a small reputation recently. In particular, it owes this gain in popularity to the announcement of the 17th opus in the main series. It must be said that during its first presentation, Tales of Arise had amazed us with its shimmering colors, its welcoming heroic fantasy universe and its superbly composed original soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba. When it was launched in September 2021, Bandai Namco's software clearly did not disappoint!
A deserved ascent
The Tales of Arise epic transports us to the planet Dahna where life is not good. Indeed, the inhabitants of a neighboring world named Rena have simply enslaved the local population in order to plunder the resource-rich lands. Our hero, Alphen, will sound the revolt and set out to meet his future allies scattered all over Dahna. But since we are in the presence of a JRPG, many side stories are told to us in parallel with the main quest. The story also progresses through sumptuously staged cutscenes and sometimes worthy of the best anime from Japan. Nothing has been left to chance by the development teams wishing to address regulars of the genre as well as newcomers.
Our squad is not content to just admire the superb settings that the game offers us since, like in any good self-respecting RPG, Tales of Arise is not stingy with combat. The artes system is making a comeback in order to offer a strategic side to the clashes. It is important to note that any character can be controlled during battle and each has unique skills. The result is intense, enjoyable and sometimes quite tough games. Optimizing the equipment of our heroes is also an essential factor to take into account. The combat system is therefore very complete and promotes immersion.
Finally, it is not possible to ignore the graphics of Tales of Arise. The game is artistically sumptuous and the engine works wonders. Fluidity is imperial on Xbox Series X... And what about the music that accompanies our heroes if it's not that our ears are full of it at every moment?! It's a certainty, JRPG fans will not be disappointed with the trip and others would be advised to be tempted by this opus as magnificent as it is accessible. The fun will last for dozens of hours and even once the end credits have come to an end, Tales of Arise will still have a lot to offer you. A must!
9. Control, the action game that puts everything on its writing

Remedy Entertainment is a studio known for licenses like Max Payne, Alan Wake or Quantum Break. The titles in question share several points in common, including third-person shootouts and their pronounced taste for a worked or even deliberately complex scenario. The recipe has not changed with Control.
Once again, the Swedish studio offered us a new franchise rather than a sequel by releasing Control in August 2019. It was also the first title to be released on almost all media while the previous two games from the Finnish team were Xbox exclusives when they launch. However, we are in the presence of a pure product made in Remedy with a unique universe and action-oriented gameplay with supernatural powers as a bonus.
A surprise check
Each time, the plots of the Remedy productions amaze with their originality. Control places us in the shoes of Jesse Faden, a young woman in search of her brother kidnapped by the agency called the Federal Bureau of Control. But once arrived at the headquarters of this organization, our heroine realizes that something is wrong since supernatural entities occupy the premises. Jesse will have to find out what's going on in this building while unraveling the mystery surrounding the disappearance of his brother Dylan.
In Control, the player is also able to master powers that allow them to unlock previously inaccessible areas. It is therefore necessary to go back and forth to discover all the secrets (usually in the form of documents to read or listen to) and by collecting materials as well as modifications necessary to improve the only weapon available to Faden. But this object is capable of changing shape to adapt to different situations.
Admittedly, Control has a real visual and sound identity. The title really stands out on these points compared to the competition. The use of powers is also very satisfying and Jesse does not lack charisma (especially in original version with the remarkable performance of actress Courtney Hope). In short, it's all the know-how of Remedy that is assembled in this game that is really worth the detour. It will surely appeal to fans of the action-adventure genre and should also largely satisfy players looking for original experiences.
10. Sea of Thieves, piracy in good company

If it did not look like much when it was released on Xbox One in 2017, Sea of Thieves has since caught up well to become one of the most popular games in the Xbox ecosystem. We therefore had to give him a place of choice in our ranking as he has forged a huge community of pirates over the years.
Behind Sea of Thieves, we find Rare, a studio that has become legendary for its famous licenses at Nintendo and Xbox. Banjo Kazooie, Conker, GoldenEye or even Perfect Dark were imagined by British developers. So we're not really surprised when this piracy sim is announced for the Xbox One. But this time, Rare takes the gamble of offering a multiplayer title that requires maximum cooperation to carry out the expeditions. And if the ship took several months to be fully afloat, it is now a must-have for having a good time with friends.
A Pirate's Life for me !
Sea of Thieves is above all an exploration game that hides many treasures and other mysteries to solve. Battles at sea and on land are never far away from skeletons and other creatures directly from the world of piracy. The activities are not lacking either, whether it is the delivery/protection of cargo, fishing or hunting. There's always something to do. Not to mention that several DLCs have been deployed in recent years.
Legendary stories and battles drawn from the world of buccaneers also punctuate the progression. These fables are an opportunity to take part in rather interesting quests that plunge us into the heart of the stories of the iconic figures of piracy. Krakens, skeleton ships and other megalodons add an epic touch to each new game. And a strong dimension of personalization (costumes, pets, appearances for boats, etc.) rewards our adventures.
Thus, Sea of Thieves finds all its charm when played with several people. Cooperation is often essential to overcome the most difficult events. After all, what could be better than hanging out with friends (or enemies)?! With its shimmering colors, the title of Rare does not lack arguments to involve millions of players on its ships.
11. Celeste, a game that has taken off

Outer Wilds proved that an independent game could convert a large number of players to its cause through word of mouth. Other titles have benefited from a similar reputation and this is the case of Celeste, for example. A real nugget that convinced the press and the public thanks to its charm.
It was only in dematerialized format that Celeste was discreetly released in 2018. Even if it did not hit the headlines when it was announced, the title from Matt Makes Games was totally overwhelmed with praise when it was put online on the various online stores and of course on Xbox. He also joined the famous Xbox Game Pass in order to open up to a wider audience. A real success story for a software that multiplies the qualities in all game compartments.
A celestial epic
In Celeste, the player embodies Madeline, a young girl who is simply trying to climb a mountain. If his motivations remain vague at the beginning of the adventure, they end up being clarified through touching sequences and striking characters. But the game has especially won its letters of nobility through its ingenious structure and its demanding playability. Indeed, the difficulty of Celeste is not within everyone's reach. You usually have to fail in order to get up better before trying your luck again. Here too, it is above all a question of mastering a fairly classic gameplay on the whole but nevertheless perfectly proven.
However, Celeste does not want to alienate part of the public with her challenge, which could be perceived as too difficult. Indeed, an assistance tool allows you to adjust parameters that will impact gameplay according to the player's preferences. Through this it is possible to adjust the speed of the game or even make Madeline invincible. We are therefore rarely slowed down for too long and the title shows great generosity in its content.
Of course, Celeste is an aesthetic success with its retro but extremely detailed look. The colors are absolutely superb and this artistic aspect is magnified by an original soundtrack that will imprint itself in everyone's mind. Simply a great game!

Finally, we end this top with a tenth place that welcomes another franchise dear to Xbox fans. Gears of War has not been in the lace since its first episode released in 2006. The development was then provided by Epic Games in person but it was then the studio The Coalition which took up the torch with the complete remastering of the initial opus. in 2015.
It is therefore natural that Gears 5, the most successful game in the saga, is considered an essential software for the happy owners of an Xbox One. Here, the bases firmly installed by Gears of War first name remain in place but the formula has improved significantly over time. We are still faced with a third-person shooter but this time focuses on the character of Kait Diaz. The title also takes a little more risk compared to its predecessors.
A smooth action

Gears 5 is an enticing technological showcase that wonderfully promotes the faculties of Xbox machines.
