Finding a next-gen console could be a complicated task until next year. In any case, this is what the Toshiba brand seems to indicate, which warns of the endless shortage of chips.

Almost a year after their respective release, the Xbox Series X and the PS5 are still very difficult to find on the Internet and in stores (this is a little less the case for the Xbox Series S). And if many players were hoping for the arrival of more substantial stocks very soon, Takeshi Kamebuchi, in charge of semiconductors for Toshiba, has tempered our expectations with a disturbing announcement.

The new generation will wait until 2023

It is the Bloomberg site which has just brought up the words of the Japanese manufacturer. And the latter is really not reassuring: “The supply of chips will remain very limited at least until September of next year. In some cases, some customers may not be fully served until 2023. ” Among the customers mentioned by Toshiba are console manufacturers who could be heavily affected by this umpteenth shortage of chips.

To find a solution, some companies have already reviewed the design of their machine by reducing the number of components required. This is for example what Sony did with the revision of its PS5 launched last month. Unfortunately, this effort may not be enough, and the difficulties should at least persist until the end of 2022. The Switch OLED, which will be released on October 8, 2021, could also be affected.
