Naughty Dog's next big airtime may be coming sooner than expected. Indeed, the Californian studio may launch its next game this year… And it would be a remake of the first The Last of Us.
Two other projects are also in the spotlight this week.
2022, l'année de The Last of Us ?
Neil Druckmann admitted it during CES 2022, Naughty Dog is indeed working on several projects. The co-president of the studio, however, did not deign to specify the nature, but various clues have reached us over the months. While it hasn't been fully confirmed yet, we do know that a multiplayer title set in the world of The Last of Us is in development...but that's not all!
Last April, rumors about a remake of the first The Last of Us appeared. Initially imagined by Visual Arts Service Group, the project was then picked up by Naughty Dog after the release of The Last of Us Part II. If we're to believe generally knowledgeable insider Tom Henderson, development on the remake is said to be mostly complete, and a release sometime in the second half of 2022 is on the cards.
Always more apocalypse
Still according to the words of Tom Henderson, Naughty Dog would also work on a Director's Cut version of The Last of Us Part II. Like what was done with Death Stranding or even Ghost of Tsushima, this edition could include additional content. No exit window has been specified at this time.
Finally, let's go back to the multiplayer standalone which could also be released soon. As of this writing, Naughty Dog is looking for a Senior Monetization/Economy Designer whose goal will be to increase game revenue while prioritizing player values. A clue that could indicate the presence of microtransactions in this title. A free-to-play dimension cannot be ruled out either.
These many projects would aim to (re) propel the saga to the fore before the launch of the HBO series.
