Like last year, 2022 has so far seen heavy postponements for many highly anticipated games, in particular by the JVFR editorial staff.

If a few have fortunately kept a release date for this year like Forspoken or Hogwarts Legacy, many others give us an appointment in 2023, much to the chagrin of fans. But perhaps it's more wise than ever to back up to jump better, a lesson Cyberpunk 2077 learned the hard way. So here's our roundup of the most anticipated games in 2022 that we won't finally see until 2023.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

It's an understatement to say that Breath of the Wild 2 is expected at the turn. We were trepidating with impatience at the idea of finding this open world so refreshing that Nintendo had offered us with the first opus. An impatience that goes back all the same to 2019, the year of its announcement.

Unfortunately, the Japanese giant gave us an appointment last March for the spring of 2023 to find Link in his new adventure. A real heartbreak, especially since it may well be that Nintendo does not take advantage of the release of its most anticipated game to present it to us in all its glory on a new console.

Starfield

We are not going to lie to each other, it is the surprise announcement (no) this week by Bethesda of the postponement to next year of Starfield which motivated us to offer you this selection. First new license from Bethesda for more than 25 years, this title was already announced in 2018 as a breath of fresh air in the galaxy of RPGs.

Only here, an advanced release originally on November 11, 2022 seemed perfectly improbable, as Todd Howard and his teams had been discreet on the subject. Never mind, it's better to wait another year for Bethesda to offer us a project that lives up to its crazy ambitions than a buggy game. We expect a lot, and we hope not to be disappointed.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 : Heart of Chornobyl

We're cheating a bit with the highly anticipated next post-apo FPS from the Ukrainian studio GSC Game World, since no proper postponement announcement has yet been made. But the game had already been postponed to December 2022, before the terrible conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The studio was thus forced to suspend the development of STALKER 2 to defend its country, before finally moving its premises and its teams to Prague to finish its game in complete safety. In any case, we wish the best for GSC Game World, and are firmly awaiting this promising title in many respects, a priori in 2023.

Baldur's Gate III

In early access since the end of 2020, Baldur's Gate III is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games on PC. Ambitious to offer the video game experience closest to a Dungeons & Dragons paper role-playing game, the cheerful studio Larian Studios seems well on its way to success.

But to give itself the means, the Belgian independent studio giant believes it needs more time. So he made the decision last February to push back the release of his sprawling C-RPG for another year. We therefore look forward to 2023 for what promises to be a natural 20!

Overwatch 2

Announced in 2019 with an unwelcome look by the community, Overwatch 2 has since been desired. In the interim, the original game has been pretty much moribund for two years. Fortunately, multiplayer has finally let itself be approached in a promising closed beta which strongly reshuffles the cards. Although for the moment quite meager in terms of new content, it will be completed over several test phases.

But the main interest of this sequel is of course a PvE mode which intends to further expand the fascinating universe imagined by Blizzard, with a bit of RPG mechanics as a bonus. But unless there is an alpha or beta focused on the latter, it will unfortunately have to wait until 2023 to see the Cavalry arrive.

In addition to these five games, there are many other honorable mentions that have also passed through the 2023 box. These include Arkane Austin's Redfall, Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 , or Pragmata from Capcom.
