On this blessed day when the Force is mighty, what better opportunity for us to look back on the greatest games Star Wars all time ?

This fantastic universe created by George Lucas 45 years ago (already!) is not lacking in more or less successful video game adaptations. After the Star Wars games in development, we now bring you a nostalgia-packed journey with the ten titles that represent the greatest virtual adventures in the galaxy far, far away that we all cherish.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Let's start without warning with what is undeniably THE best Star Wars game of all time: Knights of the Old Republic! In a single title, BioWare has achieved the double feat of brilliantly bringing the Star Wars universe into the yard of the greatest RPGs and exploring the fascinating and underrepresented period of the Old Republic.

And what about this masterful scenario with one of the craziest plot-twists in all of history! Nothing could match this game except for an excellent sequel. But perhaps the Remake in development at Aspyr could bring this simply anthological game up to date.

Star Wars Battlefront II (2005)

Star Wars is also epic pitched battles between colossal armies. And no title has better represented this aspect in FPS or TPS view than the original Star Wars Battlefront II, released in 2005. Exploiting the Clone Wars and the Rebellion against the Empire, Pandemic Studios title also added in playable units number of emblematic heroes.

DICE did try to recreate the magic of the original game in 2017, but the business model it adopted caused one of the biggest upheavals the industry has seen. The title then came close to redemption, before Electronic Arts finally cut the floodgates in 2020.

Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 : Jedi Outcast

In the category of action-adventure games, the Jedi Knights series is held in high regard. And the best of them is undoubtedly Jedi Outcast. This title offers us to embody Kyle Katarn after the events of Episode VI. It's a perfect mix of first-person shooter and third-person lightsaber combat, laced with Force powers.

A series of truly cult games, which to date has unfortunately not seen the emergence of real competitors in its category.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

The MMOs stamped Star Wars can be counted on the fingers of one hand, while the teeming universe lends itself incredibly well to the exercise. Bouncing on the masterpiece that is Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare has split its own approach to the genre, and in a very convincing way.

With its rich story unique to each class, this game, affectionately known as a large-scale single-player RPG, has accompanied millions of fans for hundreds of hours. Far from being out of steam despite its release in 2011, The Old Republic still has many good years ahead of it.

Jedi Star Wars: Fallen Order

After the many escapades of Electronic Arts in the matter, we no longer thought that a good Star Wars game would come out of its stables one day. And yet this is what happened with Fallen Order, developed by the talented studio Respawn Entertainment.

Riding the wave of souls-like, the title remains above all a Star Wars game and carries the codes superbly well. As the young Jedi Cal Kestis after the terrible period of Order 66, we are invested with the impossible mission of rebuilding the fallen Order. One thing is certain, we are looking forward to the rest of the adventures!

Star Wars : Republic Commando

Speaking of Order 66, another title superbly represented the Clone Wars, but this time embodying one of them: Republic Commando. Good FPS in the Star Wars universe are rare, and tactical FPS even more so.

In any case, THQ Nordic has succeeded perfectly, with a game that has never been dethroned in its category. The Star Wars FPS in development on the side of Respawn Entertainment could, however, have the shoulders strong enough to take over.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

With LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Warner Bros. Games hit very hard. Not only does the game allow us to revisit the WHOLE Star Wars film saga with the humor so specific to LEGO games, but it is also the best commercial success of the franchise.

In addition to a representation with LEGO sauce which in its own way pays homage to the films, the gameplay is perfectly calibrated. A real success all along the line, which has hoisted the young title into the pantheon of the best Star Wars games.

Star Wars : Dark Forces

Two years after the release of DOOM, Lucasarts offered us in 1995 what was called at the time a DOOM-like with Star Wars sauce. And the result turned out to be nothing less than a now legendary title.

Only one Padawan has so far surpassed the master in the genre: Republic Commando. But that's without counting on Respawn Entertainment, which could well surprise us.

Star Wars Rogue Leader : Rogue Squadron 2

The Star Wars universe wouldn't be as cult without its iconic space battles. And few games have managed to convey that epic blast as well as Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2, exclusively on Game Cube.

While it offers us to relive the greatest moments in the stars of the original trilogy, this Star Wars dogfight game has never been dethroned in its genre. Star Wars Squadrons was not far off, but it lacked the magic of this legendary Game Cube title.

Star Wars : TIE Fighter

Speaking of space combat, another title has made a strong impression, since this time it offers to approach them from an imperial point of view with Star Wars: TIE Fighter. And piloting the iconic TIE fighter was a real treat for fans at the time.

In addition to offering revolutionary gameplay in its time, TIE Fighter could boast of a surprisingly deep storyline that placed us at the heart of imperial intrigue. A title quite simply in the stars!

The honorable mentions that we are forced to quote

If they are not on this list which has been extremely difficult to compile, it is unthinkable for us to leave you without mentioning other excellent Star Wars games.

Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi on SNES, the racing game Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, the strategy game Empire at War or even The Power of the Force are all titles that have superbly represented this abundant universe in a video game format. .
