Although the joysticks of the Nintendo Switch have benefited from various improvements, the phenomenon of "joy-con drift" would be inevitable according to the brand.

And it is the director of technology development himself, Ko Shiota, who recently confirmed it.

The inevitable joy-con drift according to Nintendo

Perhaps you are one of the many people who have seen their Nintendo Switch suffer from the now infamous “joy-con drift”. A phenomenon of wear that affects the analog sticks of the small controllers of the Nintendo console, and which causes serious problems of playability, with a character who will move on his own or even an interface in which it becomes very complicated to navigate with precision.

During a recent question and answer session dedicated to the Switch OLED, it was Ko Shiota, in charge of technological development at Nintendo, who wanted to come back to the problem. He confirms that Nintendo has indeed made various improvements, but that wear remains inevitable... and that the "joy-con drift" cannot therefore disappear.

Ko Shiota notably draws a parallel with car tires, which wear out as they rub against the ground; according to him, the same is true with Nintendo's joy-cons. “We asked ourselves how we could improve durability, without minimizing the versatility and flexibility of the controls,” he explains.

For the very recent Nintendo Switch OLED, still according to Ko Shiota, the joy-con provided are identical to those already in circulation. The latter would therefore have benefited from some improvements to optimize their resistance, just like the joy-con marketed in recent months…. but they would not be immune to the "joy-con drift".

When will the first white joy-con (the one delivered with the new Switch OLED) show its first signs of weakness? The question is valid !
