Splinter Cell: Ubisoft confirms the development of a remake

It was without warning that Ubisoft confirmed a rumor that had been circulating for a while. Yes, a new one Splinter Cell is in development, and will ultimately be a remake rather than a sequel.

The Spanish publisher announced the news via a post on its blog. Ubisoft Toronto is in charge of this project, the production of which has just begun. Thus, we have only a few concrete elements to discover this week. The Splinter Cell remake will use the Snowdrop Engine, which will also be used to power Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the Star Wars game developed by Ubisoft.

A truly next-gen game

With this Splinter Cell, the Spanish firm promises new generation visuals, but also dynamic shadows and lighting. Gameplay will also be tweaked to suit current standards. For example, the infiltration side will be kept, but with a touch of modernity as a bonus. Some elements will be completely redesigned. The developers want to find a kind of compromise between the nostalgia of the first games and a more contemporary aspect. Finally, the game will opt for a linear progression.

The bottom line is that the Splinter Cell remake won't be happening right away. Development is just beginning, and Ubisoft shouldn't show the game for several months. But one thing is certain… Sam Fisher is back!
