As it celebrates its 10th anniversary, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim could only seize the opportunity to come out in a brand new version. Title Anniversary Edition, it is intended to be more complete with new content. But of course, it is not free and we will quickly see if buying it is really essential.

Like what we were able to do with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, we are not going to offer you a complete test of the famous Skyrim but rather a brief overview of what this famous edition offers you in terms of content.

Help yourself, it's free!

Before moving on to the paid part, you should know that several new elements are available at no additional cost for owners of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (Game Pass version included). Let's start with the PS5 / Xbox Series X|S upgrade that allows the game to run in 4K at 60 FPS, all with shortened load times. It is then more pleasant to browse Skyrim, but we noticed some jerks when moving the camera quickly in very bright areas. Nothing too bad but the technical copy is not perfect.

Then, four very specific contents are also available for free. In this list, we find Rare curiosities (unpublished ingredients), the quest suite The Saints and the Seducers, the survival mode and fishing. This last activity is quite rudimentary since only a few stretches of water are eligible for it and you just cast the line and then bring up the fish without doing anything more. While for its part, the survival mode brings a whole new dimension to the adventure with in particular the deactivation of fast travel, new diseases or even restrictions at the level of the inventory. In short, all the additions are not equal but their presence remains appreciable.

Birthday with paid entry

There are two ways to get The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition. By purchasing the full game (with all DLC) at €54,99 or by paying the upgrade at €19,99 for owners of the Special Edition. Note that this upgrade is not offered to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Anyway, 70 mods are included. In most cases, these are items, spells, equipment or even new ready-to-use houses. It's quite anecdotal for ordinary players, but fans will probably find it more satisfying.

A few quests also make it into this list and sometimes result in rewards like awesome weapons and new sidekicks. It even becomes possible to run your own farm. But we are not going to lie to ourselves, these missions are often very short and the dialogues extremely minimalist since it is a question of mods created by the community. There is therefore nothing to upset the experience but the lifespan necessarily increases by a handful of hours.

Do we go or not?

In itself, this Anniversary Edition is quite dispensable but the upgrade against twenty euros is nothing dishonest. It is primarily aimed at game lovers who want to immerse themselves in this immersive universe. The small additions are numerous, rather well implemented but unfortunately we quickly go around.

A funny companion (but don't bring it home!)

For players who have not yet explored the lands of Skyrim, the Special Edition (included in the Game Pass and regularly on sale on other media) is a sufficient introduction and much less expensive. Still, if it is not impeccable at this level, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim keeps looking great on the graphic plan and in its technical part. A game that is still as legendary as ever!
