Expected for next November 11, theAnniversary Edition de Skyrim, the monumental Action-RPG from Bethesda, may cause problems for mod lovers.
If owners of Skyrim Special Edition will be able to enjoy it for free, a developer of this version has split a warning on Reddit about potential compatibility issues for most existing mods.
Poisoned birthday?
It was during QuakeCon 2021 that Bethesda presented the edition aimed at celebrating the tenth anniversary of Skyrim, the latest title in the hit saga The Elder Scrolls. This edition is more or less intended to upgrade the Special Edition to 64 bits and to add all the mods present in the Creation Club as well as other original creations such as fishing. Skyrim will also take the opportunity to experience a new generation facelift to settle on the last consoles that it lacked, namely PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Only, this passage to 64 bits is accompanied by another less pleasant change. As Skyrim Special Edition developer extrwi reports, this ten-year edition will go from a 2015 version of Visual Studio to a 2019 version. game will be generated.
In other words, this means that every mod using the game's code will be rendered obsolete once the Anniversary Edition is available on November 11. A hard blow, as much for the players as for the modders themselves. Remember that Skyrim is currently one of the games with the most mods in the world (more than 60 on Nexus Mods!).
Modders will have to roll up their sleeves
In principle, mods that only alter textures should still work on the Anniversary Edition, however. Regarding potentially incompatible mods such as gameplay modifications, their creators will probably have to rework them so that they are in line with the alterations made to this new version.
This means that those who have activated a hundred mods on Skyrim will have to do without for a while when the Anniversary Edition is released. At least as long as it will take modders to rework their creations.
Skyrim Anniversary Edition will therefore be available on November 11 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass.
