Despite the crazy expectations of the community, it must be admitted that Shenmue 3 did not keep all of its promises. However, a fourth opus could well see the light of day in the more or less near future.

It was after 18 long years of absence that Ryo Hazuki made his big comeback in Shenmue 3 in November 2019. Unfortunately, the game had received a mixed reception because of its aging mechanics and its stagnant story. Thus, worshipers of the license imagined by Yu Suzuki hope for an announcement of Shenmue 4 even if the viability of the project remains uncertain to this day.

A real clue or just speculation?

The hallway noise comes from a response posted on the 110 Industries Instagram account. This company, which brings together around 150 video game professionals around the world, is currently working on a game called Wanted: Dead. And it is precisely under a post concerning this title that an Internet user suggested to 110 Industries to join forces with Yu Suzuki in order to give birth to Shenmue 4. The company replied with the following sentence: “Guess why he (Suzuki ) was present on our stream at TGS”.

Thus, 110 Industries seems to imply that the Japanese creator came to talk to them about Shenmue 4 during the last Tokyo Game Show to date. Of course, this can be a clumsy answer or just a joke. Recently, Cédric Biscay, the producer of the third opus, explained that several publishers had been approached to develop a sequel. We do not know if these discussions were fruitful.
