Return to Monkey Island: Ron Gilbert finally back for a new opus!

This one, no one had seen coming. Ron Gilbert, the original dad of the saga Monkey Island, is finally back in business for a third opus. And the most beautiful? Return to Monkey Island will arrive this year.

While waiting for a real date, a little teaser and some info are here.

Back (back) to Monkey Island in 2022!

Developed in secret for two years, Return to Monkey Island is a total surprise. Indeed, Ron Gilbert (whose latest game is Thimbleweed Park), creator of the cult point and click saga and responsible for the first two games, The Secret of Monkey Island (1990) and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (1991), then left his place on the following games indicating that he would never touch the license again.

But you have to believe that you should never say never. Especially since this new opus will follow on from the first two games, thus more or less erasing the story told in the games created subsequently without it, namely The Curse of Monkey Island (from which the character of Murray, present in the teaser), Escape from Monkey Island and Tales of Monkey Island.

Developed by Terrible Toybox and Lucasfilm Games and published by Devolver Digital, Return to Monkey Island will arrive in 2022. Neither platform nor exact date is known at this time, but an official website is live. Ron Gilbert has once again been assisted by Dave Grossman for design and writing, the music will be provided by Michael Land, Peter McConnel and Clint Bajakian, and Dominic Armato will provide his voice to Guybrush Threepwood. And watch out behind you, a three-headed monkey!
