It's an opus that has simply restored the image of a franchise in decline. Indeed, after the very controversial sixth episode, Resident Evil 7 came to put (almost) everyone in agreement. And this excitement was quite logically reflected in sales.

When it launched in January 2017, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (by its official nickname) won all the votes. Capcom then opted for a first-person view while putting the package on horror. The action did not disappear with this game, but the atmosphere was nevertheless more suffocating. Both critics and players agreed on this point.

A change that feels good

Thus, about four and a half years after its release, Resident Evil 7 has just exceeded 10 million copies sold worldwide. It therefore joins the legendary fourth episode which peaks at 10,78 million games sold. But it is still Resident Evil 5 which is the most popular title in the saga (13,34 million units), followed by Resident Evil 6 and its approximately 11,5 million copies.

As for the future of the license, it will materialize first in the cinema with the release of the reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City at the end of the year. The first trailer for the feature film was unveiled this week.
