Resident Evil Code Veronica: a date and a demo for the fan-remake

Resident Evil Code Veronica: a date and a demo for the fan-remake

Waiting for an official remake of the excellent but less known Resident Evil: Code Veronica, fans are preparing to offer their own vision, inspired by the no less excellent Resident Evil 2 Remake.

A project in production for several years, which should arrive in a playable version in 2022, for the time being only on PC.

Resident Evil: Code REmake

Launched for the first time in 2000 on Dreamcast before being ported to PS2 and remastered on PS3 and Xbox 360, Code Veronica proved to be an excellent horror game at the time, in line with the original Resident Evil games. He indeed took up the… codes with different viciously placed camera angles conducive to cold sweats, with Claire Redfield as the main protagonist trying to survive on the terrible Rockfort Island.

Unfortunately, Capcom had not yet planned to make a Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 3 Remake remake of it, its gaze being visibly rather turned towards a remake of the monumental Resident Evil 4. Never mind, a Spanish fan group took it upon themselves to do Capcom's job for them and adapt Code Veronica with Resident Evil 2 Remake's engine and gameplay.

The video in the introduction to this article also displays in detail the work done by these talented fans to create a faithful rehabilitation of the sets, visual effects, revisited models of the protagonists and zombies and the redesigned gameplay mechanics.

Claire Redfield will soon unofficially return to service

This fan-remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica should thus see “officially” the current day of the year, and should have three chapters lasting four hours each. However, the developers did not provide any further details as to the release date, nor indicated whether the three chapters could be directly playable.

They don't intend to stop at the main story, however, and plan to add other game modes to it as well, some of which are arguably similar to Mercenaries from more recent Resident Evil titles. A Lite version will also be offered for the less well-endowed PC configurations, and all this will be accessible completely free of charge.

However, the group of Spanish developers is not reluctant to financial support for their ambitious project, and offers along the way to know everything about it via the official site of a fan-remake which looks very promising, quoted in source below. below. It is also possible to find a demo there, in order to have a better preview of the final project.

For the time being, Capcom has not yet sanctioned this fan-remake, but the threat of a lawsuit for infringement of copyright hovers at every moment, risking to definitively kill in the bud the remarkable work of these fans.
