A feature eagerly awaited by the happy owners of the console, compatibility with SSD M.2 is about to be deployed on the side of the PlayStation 5. And this is not the only novelty that awaits us in the next software update of the machine.

In particular, there will be optimizations at the interface level.

For better internal storage, but under certain conditions

Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment launched registrations to allow a handful of players to have the opportunity to test the features of future updates of the PS5 in preview. This week, the first codes were sent to different users. They can therefore freely download the beta version of the future patch for the machine.

The major novelty is in the compatibility of the PS5 with M.2 SSDs in order to improve the storage of the console. Of course, there are prerogatives to respect. First of all, it is imperative to use an M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD with read speeds reaching at least 5 Mb/s. The device must also have an efficient heat dissipation system. But Sony warns, games stored on an SSD of this type may not benefit from the same performance as if they were placed within the internal storage of the PS500.

Nice improvements in perspective

The update currently in beta phase also offers other advantages. For example, 3D audio technology will work from TV speakers. The DualSense controller will use its microphone to measure the acoustics of the room and adjust the audio output accordingly. Other good news, PS5 and PS4 games can be better identified thanks to a very distinct display for these two categories.

Still in the radius of notable changes, the lists of trophies will now be presented vertically in order to offer more readability to the description of these virtual rewards. In addition, quick access will be added for five trophies on each game. As for the Control Center, it can be personalized and the Game Base improved to display the status (connected, busy, offline) of your friends. Reading and writing messages will be made possible from this last section. Finally, on the PlayStation Now, the player will be able to switch between 720p and 1080p resolutions at any time.

At this time, we don't know when this PS5 update will roll out widely.
