New is coming to PS5 and PS4. At least for players who have registered for the beta program for one of the two consoles.
The next version of system software will be available this Wednesday, February 9 with a whole host of UI improvements, new Party chat options, and accessibility features.
The arrival of Open Parties and changes for Shared Play
In this second beta version of the PS5, participants can discover the (possible) next novelties of the console update. Starting with new Party chat options, which can now extend to the circle of party members. More concretely, it will now be possible to create an open Party that your friends and the friends of the participants can join without being invited. This feature will currently only be available to those using the PS5 or PS4 beta.
Inevitably, such a novelty calls for the strengthening of reporting. On PS5, users will have new visual indicators to better identify a speaker who is making comments that require moderation. Another modification, it will be easier to do a Shared Game from voice chat. From now on, everything can be done from the dedicated card, without having to go through several menus until you reach the Screen Sharing tab. It will also be possible to launch on broadcast directly from the Share button. On a completely different note, PS4 players will be able to individually adjust the voice chat volume of each player in a Party, as is already the case on PS5.
UI changes and Game Base improvements
To make these new features easier to understand, voice chats will now be called Parties. With this PS5 beta, PlayStation wants to make access to the various features more intuitive and has thus divided the Game Base into three tabs: Friends, Parties and Messages. More concretely, from these menus, players can display all friends from the dedicated tab, search for other players or manage their friend requests. It will also be possible to create a new group directly from the Game Base, but also to display the multimedia content shared in this same group from this card.
The PS5 interface will also get a makeover. The home screen will now display more games or applications, for a total of 14. Good news, players will be able to pin their favorites in order to keep up to 5 on each home screen . Note that an option to filter the games in the collection by genre will appear, while the trophies interface will undergo a minor facelift. Suggested trophies to obtain will appear in the "Trophy Tracker", accessible from the Control Center.
