We often hear about Mafia lately. And for good reason: a new opus is in development at Hangar 13. Moreover, the latest XboxEra podcast gives us some small details on the one that we will call the default Mafia 4.

If the words of informant Nick Baker were to prove, the new opus of the franchise could be a prequel to the very first game, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, released in 2002.

A plot set 30 years before Mafia

According to Nick Baker's sources, this Mafia 4 would share a multitude of points with the first two games of the license. Less well received, Mafia 3 seems to want to be forgotten by the teams.

In Mafia 4, we would play the young Ennio Salieri during his youth in Sicily at the dawn of the 20th century. The same Ennio Salieri who, 30 years later, will be called "Don" by our protagonist in Mafia first of the name.

In terms of structure, Hangar 13 would also depart from the too open dimension of Mafia 3 to reconnect with the certain interventionism of the first two opuses. The idea being not to dilute the story in a world that is too big โ€“ where, moreover, there has never been much to do.

But many things can still change. From what we know, Mafia 4 is only in its early stages of development. On the other hand, it would be one of the many games to already adopt the Unreal Engine 5 engine.
