Horizon Forbidden West: first positive feedback for the Guerrilla game

Horizon forbidden west will be available next month on PlayStation consoles. A few days before its launch, the title of Guerrilla Games let itself be approached by the press. And the first feedback is extremely encouraging!

The previews in question were produced by the American giant IGN and the German site GamePro. We will come back to the impressions of the testers, but also to the new features unveiled by the Dutch studio during this hands-on.

Freedom above all

Thus, journalists were able to approach Horizon Forbidden West for about four hours on PS5. We are not going to talk about the story that will be told to us in this second opus. If you want to keep the surprise until the end, it is strongly recommended not to watch the video at the top of this article. For the rest, all the lights are green!

The new adventures of Aloy seem to honor all the promises of the first game. The previews evoke in particular more complex combat, freedom pushed to its climax and an even more lively world with secondary activities as varied as they are interesting. Among the notable improvements, we can mention more intuitive climbing phases since the passable walls can be highlighted by pressing R3.

It's the whole "exploration" part that has been improved by adding new tools for Aloy. The latter will be able to hover in the air thanks to a kind of paraglider (à la Breath of the Wild). A grappling hook also makes its appearance in the company of a Pullcaster which is used to knock down walls in order to reveal treasures. The gameplay as a whole would then be much more vertical in order to reinforce this feeling of freedom.



A living, content-rich world

The Forbidden West is bustling with its colonies full of NPCs going about their business. The schedule is governed by the tribe in which the character in question lives. More varied secondary quests will be entrusted to the Aloy during her journey. Some activities will emphasize puzzles or combat.

These battles would be even more exhilarating thanks to the reworked melee combat system and the formidable machines that will block our way. Aloy will be able to face them at will via a special Arena. An online ranking will inflate the ego of the best fighters. The machines are generally more threatening, but our warrior will have at her disposal many weapons to defend herself.


The RPG dimension has also been reinforced since six skill trees will be in the game. Weapons and outfits can also accommodate improvements during the game. Compared to those of Zero Dawn, the rewards obtained (outfits, weapons, etc.) after a mission will be of better quality in Horizon Forbidden West.

Hurry the exit!

Finally, Guerrilla Games has obviously used all its know-how to design a sumptuous PS5 version. The animations are more detailed, the lighting more realistic, and the frozen staging of the first opus during the dialogues has also been improved. The characters are better animated and the camera does not hesitate to alternate between different points of view.

According to IGN, Horizon Forbidden West is what Assassin's Creed II was compared to the original Assassin's Creed. That is to say better at all levels without denying its origins. The first previews are therefore extremely positive. Can't wait for the game to be released on February 18, 2022 on PS5 and PS4.
