During an interview with our colleagues at IGN, 343 Industries explained in detail its vision for the system of Battle Pass multiplayer free-to-play d'Halo Infinite.

If the studio had already explained the beginnings in the past, this time it took the opportunity to reveal how it works in great detail. To do this, Jerry Hook, design director of Halo Infinite and Chris Blohm, chief designer of the progression, spoke at the microphone of IGN.

343 Industries' plans for the Battle Pass

After presenting the PC version and a new trailer for the single player campaign, it's the turn of the Battle Pass system to be presented in detail by 343 Industries. We already knew that the studio planned to offer a relatively fair system for players. Indeed, it will be possible to progress on the Battle Pass of any current or past season, without fear that it will expire one day.

Hook and Blohm took the opportunity to make it clear that the teams behind the Battle Pass system don't want to wear Spartans down. Aware that many players always have several different games on the go, they wanted to offer the least oppressive system possible. The goal is above all to motivate the troops to come back from time to time out of desire and excitement, rather than forcing them to play.

Hook and Blohm also confirmed that only one Seasonal Battle Pass can be active at a time. To unlock elements of a given season, you will therefore have to leave the current Battle Pass aside for a while. However, they did make it clear that Halo Infinite's multiplayer will not feature infamous lootboxes. 343 Industries wants players to know what they are investing in and not spend their money on the basis of chance.

Season 1 Battle Pass content clarified

Entitled Heroes of Reach, the first season of the Battle Pass intends to pay homage to the origins of the Spartans and the title presenting the best customization system to date. Content for this inaugural season's Battle Pass Premium leaked last month, and that leak turned out to be mostly accurate.

This season will therefore present one hundred different rewards, with a legendary item every twenty-five tiers. Reach obliges, the cosmetic elements offered in this Battle Pass will be very strong nods to the fourth opus developed by Bungie.

Besides the various iconic armor parts of this game, we will also find old and new death effects, customization elements for our personal AI, tags, weapon accessories, and many other things.

With all due respect to fans of dance emotes, such items will not be part of the unlockable rewards, at least for now. Hook and Blohm felt that the fans of the Halo franchise, to whom this new installment is very much aimed, would not approve of the idea of their Spartans indulging in frivolous dances.

Challenges and events to unlock rewards

The Battle Pass won't be the only way to get cosmetics and other items in Halo Infinite, which will be progressed through weekly challenges. By completing all the challenges of a week, a special reward will be granted to the most diligent.

Playing the single-player campaign will also grant rewards by completing different challenges. A shop will also be there, but also events, also weekly. The shop and the challenges had been the subject of a first draft during the technical tests of the multiplayer, as evidenced by our two screenshots above and below.

Hook and Blohm didn't share many details with IGN about the event system, other than that the events will appear weekly. The rewards they will offer will be accessible to everyone for free. A progression system for events will unlock the many rewards, even if players have missed a few along the way.

The event system has not been tested by the developers during the beta phases, it will be entitled to a first draft at the game's release. This iteration will allow us to see how the functionality will be received by players. , and it will be refined over time or through technical testing with Halo Insiders.

How To Unlock Yoroi Armor And Other Similar Items

Samurai Yoroi's armor made quite an impression in the very first trailer for Halo Infinite multiplayer during E3. Hook and Blohm thus took advantage of the interview to specify how to obtain it. This MJÖLNIR armor pattern is indeed not common, and for good reason. A feature allowing developers to splurge in the Halo universe had been tested via Fracture events on the Master Chief Collection.

This one had indeed accommodated very typical medieval or even Viking armor models. This way of allowing artists to offer unique models in the Halo universe has obviously greatly pleased the community. Therefore, 343 Industries believes that such an event could be repeated in Halo Infinite.

Hook and Blohm thus indicated that the Battle Pass is only part of a great whole, to allow everyone to create their unique Spartan and to use armor at their convenience. The studio will therefore have to experiment with the weekly events and Fracture, in order to see how the set is received by the community, with the idea of making the game evolve hand in hand with it.

Rather encouraging prospects in short, while there is only a very short month left before the wait around Halo Infinite finally comes to an end. The next FPS from 343 Industries will be released on December 8 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass. Unfortunately, some major elements will miss the launch: a necessary sacrifice for 343 Industries in order not to push back the deadline for another year.
