Half-Life Alyx: an ApertureVR demo mod to revisit Portal 2

Half-Life Alyx: an ApertureVR demo mod to revisit Portal 2

Beyond its excellent main story, Half-Life: Alyx shines thanks to many talented modders offering in particular to revisit other games in a new way.

In addition to the possibility of rediscovering the excellent FPS BioShock, with a second chapter in production, another mod allows you to find the test chambers of another masterpiece from Valve, Portal 2. Responding to the name of ApertureVR - Thinking Without Portals, this mod still in demo tends to reproduce the atmosphere of the original game, but without Portal Gun.

Redesign Portal 2 without portals

For now, ApertureVR opens the doors to four test chambers. In the absence of Portal Gun, it is Alyx's Gravity Gloves that will allow us, among other things, to overcome the puzzles standing in our way. Despite the absence of this iconic tool from the original game, the team of four people behind this mod have succeeded in the remarkable job of reproducing its atmosphere and artistic direction in a very beautiful way.

To accomplish this feat, the modders worked for a month using more than 200 models taken from the original game or created for the occasion. In addition to the mod, they also offer access to these models on the Steam Workshop, codenamed "ApertureVR Source Pack". This is of course only a demo: the team of modders behind the project intends to create other test chambers and add more to the ApertureVR Source Pack.

According to the description of the ApertureVR mod, modders would need extra arms for this, in order to come up with new VR-friendly puzzles. To be fair, provided that GLaDOS agrees and prepares a good cake for the occasion.
