After winning numerous awards at the BAFTA 2021 and the Game Awards 2020, Hades is now the first video game to receive the prestigious Hugo Literary Prize.

A prize aimed at recognizing the best literary works of science fiction and fantasy awarded on the occasion of the 79th annual Worldcon ceremony, otherwise known as DisCon III because of its holding in front of a face-to-face audience but also remotely.

A track record worthy of the gods

Since its release in 2018, Supergiant Games' game has continued to receive well-deserved praise. First by critics, especially in our columns, then with players, and finally during ceremonies honoring the best video games.

Today, Hades takes another prize to Hell to add to his extensive collection: the prestigious Hugo literary prize, which for the first time in 79 years has been awarded to a work other than purely literary. One more sign that this medium is gaining momentum and gaining recognition in the face of other art forms.

The co-director of DisCon III justified this decision in this sense: “Since the beginning of 2020, many of us have spent more time playing than expected. This award will provide fans with an opportunity to celebrate the impactful, exhilarating and exceptional games of this past year.”

Against him, however, the competition was fierce. The other games in the running indeed had formidable opponents such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us Part II or even Spiritfarer.

Supergiant Games can therefore rest on its laurels thanks to its remarkable performance on Hades. Hoping that their next game will be as brilliant a success as we now know this independent studio more than ever capable of achieving.
